Domaine de la Chanade "Les Rials" Loin de l'Oeil

That's a mouthful eh? The Loin de l'Oeil grape is virtually unknown outside of France. In fact, this is the only bottling imported into the whole US! The name's literal translation of "far from the eye" refers to the grape vine's unusually long stems, which put the grape bunches far from the viewer.   The nice thing about this wine is that it aromas and flavors remind of drinking a nice White Burgundy! Nice hazelnut aromas with juicy apple and pear on the palate, medium bodied with nice acidity on the crisp finish. Drink now.

Frederick Esmonin

This small domaine in Les Estournelles, Gevrey-Chambertin has approximately 10 acres of vineyards. The production of each wine is very small with the average production of each of the vineyard designated wines varying from around 75 cases to 300 cases. Most of the holdings at this Domaine have old vines. Prior to 1987 the wines were sold to negociants such as Leroy and Jadot. Some of the very great wines of the 50s from Leroy are believed to have come from this Domaine. The Domaine Frederic Esmonin Burgundies continue to represent excellent value in Red Burgundy and are wines to buy.

The vines in Clos Prieur are 50-60 years old. You will not find a better small production Gevry unless you spend twice as much! This wine is as good as many Premier Crus I have had and it is very affordable and absolutely delicious. Beautiful ripe strawberry floral perfume aroma, on the palate it has gorgeous purity of flavor with the supple strawberry and cherry showing elegance with a good underlying backbone. Perfectly balanced it is a Burgundy that can be consumed now or cellared for the longer term - unitl 2025. Don't miss this amazing wine!
