Notes From Doug

If you are not familiar with Charles Smith Wines, Charles is a self-taught winemaker, a true artisan and a pioneer in the wine world. Back in 2006 he started a second brand, Charles Smith Wines. The brand was themed as "The Modernist Project," which focuses on the way people generally consume wine today: immediately. The intent was (and still is) to create wines to be enjoyed now, but with true typicity of both the varietal and the vineyard.  In 2008, K Vintners (his upper tier winery) was recognized by Wine & Spirits magazine as one of the "Best New Wineries of the Last Ten Years," and as "Winery of the Year" in their annual buying guide. In 2009 Food & Wine magazine awarded Charles "Winemaker of the Year" and in 2010 Seattle Magazine recognized Charles as their "Winemaker of the Year."  The wines under the Charles Smith brand are delicious wines made with both quality and budget in mind to enjoy now. Some have previously been ranked in the top 100 wines in the World Wine Spectator. This week I am pleased to offer these great wines along with a few new assorted Hot Buy Closeout wines. Scroll down for all the tasting notes and reply to this email to reserve yours today.  We thank you for your business and look forward to serving you

Cheers!

Doug

Reg. $11.99 Now $7.99 Save 33%

La Piuma Pecorino hails from the Abruzzo wine region of Italy where the vines enjoy a unique microclimate subject to varying temperatures featuring plenty of sunshine and rainfall. The region's rich vinicultural history stretches back to the fourth or sixth century B.C. Sweet notes of apple and pear tease your nose and, coupled with lighter hints of jasmine, combine to make the perfect complement to a seafood feast of fresh fish and oysters. The mild acidity is enjoyable yet not overbearing.

Robert Parker 87 Points"The 2010 Primitivo is an attractive wine that shows the more delicate, feminine side of Primitivo. Sweet raspberries, flowers, licorice and spices are some of the aromas and flavors that emerge from this vinous red. A long, undertstated finish rounds out this tasty value-priced offering." (Rhone) Domaine Bahourat Cuvee Elisabeth Costieres de Nimes 2010

Reg. $15.99 Now $11.99 Save 25%

Nestled in the sunny southern Rhone Valley, Domaine Bahourat produces extremely flavorful Costieres de Nimes. Here the estate produces round, fruit-forward wines in an area between the ancient city of Nimes and the western Rhone delta, in the French department of the Gard. Formerly part of the Languedoc region of France, as the wines more resemble those of the Rhone valley in character than of the Languedoc, it is now part of the Rhone wine area. Wines from the region have been produced for over two millennia and were consumed by the Greeks in pre-Roman times, making it one of the oldest vinyards in Europe. The area was settled by veterans of Julius Caesar's campaigns in Egypt, and bottles of Costieres de Nimes sometimes bear the symbol of the Roman settlement at Nimes, a crocodile chained to a palm tree. This wine is aged for 8 months on stainless steel tanks.

Robert Parker "this Syrah-Grenache blend has scents of rhubarb, cherry and scrubby herbs, a faintly tart and bitter but well-concentrated and sappy palate, and a resin-tinged, faintly warm finish. Enjoy it with grilled meats and other hearty fare."

80% Syrah and 20% Grenache

(Australia) Thorne Clarke James Goddard Barossa Shiraz 2011
