FROM THE HEART         NEWS FROM KIDS FIRST
OCTOBER 2014

Greetings to our friends and supporters,

If you are a professional working with families in transition, whether it's from a legal or a mental health perspective, would you like to learn more about the issues that are preventing divorced or separated parents from resolving their differences and moving on for the sake of their children?  Overcoming Roadblocks to Resolution: Strategies to Help Your Clients Navigate Both the Legal and Emotional Divorce will be presented on October 17th at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport.   Please join us for what promises to be a great day of learning and networking.

Meanwhile, keep in mind that October is Domestic Violence Awareness month.  Kids First offers a program for mothers who have left abusive relationships which discusses parenting concerns and safety planning.  Please contact the Center for details about the scheduling of this quarterly workshop.

Warmest wishes,

Peg Libby

Executive Director

This Stepfamily Got Through Some "Really Tough Stuff"
But They're Still Standing

Huffington Post/by Brittany Wong

You'd be hard-pressed to find a blended family that didn't seriously butt heads in those first few years of living under one roof. But rest assured -- it gets better. Our reader Christine Moore swears that peace is possible if you give it a chance.

"You have to keep your eye firmly on the prize!" said Moore, who married her second husband Jason 10 years ago. "Our family has worked really hard on trying to get along -- and the effort was put in by me, my ex, my new husband and all three of my kids."
