FROM THE HEART         NEWS FROM KIDS FIRST
MAY 2014

Greetings to our friends and supporters,

The month of May is almost here, and we have more than just our biggest fundraiser of the year (Gala/Auction)  to offer!  Once April wraps up (along with Monday's free evening workshop for attorneys and GALs, "Zealous Advocacy the Kids First Way"), we've got after school support groups for kids starting up on May 6th.  Our Separation, Divorce & Dads group will be meeting as well that night, on May 6th.  And our Professional Education Committee is getting down to business discussing possible subjects for our Annual Fall Conference - now's your chance for topic suggestions if you have them!

The updated semi-annual calendar brochure will be mailed out in a few weeks, so be sure to let us know if you wish to change the number of brochures that we send to you twice a year.  (view previous calendar brochure).

Hope to be seeing many of you at the Gala!

Warmest wishes,

Peg Libby

Executive Director

Conscious Uncoupling: Helping Divorced Parents Avoid Unconscious Un-Parenting
by Rosalind Sedaca

Since Gwyneth Paltrow first mentioned the concept, it's been addressed in the media with snickers and chuckles.  Little wonder divorce and dysfunctional families abound in our western culture.

The concept of ending a marriage peacefully, with compassion and respect for your former partner, is being viewed with such surprise.  When we hear anything about "consciousness" -- which means giving thought and serious attention to something before acting on it -- we're as uncomfortable as kids in a sex-ed class.
