FROM THE HEART         NEWS FROM KIDS FIRST
MARCH 2014

Greetings to our friends and supporters,

As February draws to a close, the month of March will usher in a new session of our after-school support groups for kids whose parents are divorced or separated.  While divorce and separation will always be a life-altering event in a child's world, it doesn't have to be devastating, and one of the most effective ways in which to combat its negative effects is by making sure that kids get all the support they need.  Do you have a child, or know of one, who may benefit from a helping hand?  Give us a call today; Group I (for kids in grades 1-3) has been postponed to start on March 11 so there is still time to get involved!

Meanwhile, think spring - and our much anticipated spring Gala/Auction will be here before you know it.  If you have a great item you'd like to donate, or wish to sponsor this event, please call and we would love to talk to you.

Warmest wishes,

Peg Libby

Executive Director

P.S.  Mark your calendar for our upcoming Gala 2014, "Kids First and All That Jazz" on Friday, May 16th!  Lots of fun changes this year, including moving the event in town to Ocean Gateway!  Details to follow.

Sometimes a Child's Refusal to Go With You Is a Test
HuffPost

For some children, divorce calls into question the very nature of parental love.  The child may think to himself, "If my parents can decide they don't love each other anymore, maybe they can stop loving me.  If they can decide they don't want to live together anymore, maybe they also don't really want to live with me."

Those questions are too scary to ask directly, so kids may set up a "test" instead.  They refuse to spend time with the parent or to go to the other parent's home.  Then they watch what their parent does next.
