FROM THE HEART         NEWS FROM KIDS FIRST
MAY 2013

Greetings to our friends and supporters,

The month of May is coming up fast, which means our annual Gala/Auction is right around the corner!  If you haven't already, take a sneak peek at what we're offering this year.  Make note, the Hawaii trip is available June 8-15, 2013 only - that's soon, so check your calendar and come ready to bid!  (As always, there will be items to fit every budget, so don't feel left out if Hawaii is not in the stars for you this year)!

We've had a busy spring full of free evening workshops for parents and professionals, as well as our regularly scheduled programs.  Our Professional Education Committee is now in the early planning stages of our annual Fall Conference, so let us know if there is a particular divorce-related subject that you would love to learn more about and we will take it into consideration.

Hope to see you at the Gala on May 16th!

Warmest regards,

Peg Libby

Executive Director

The Long Way Home For Adults Who Were
Children Of Divorce
www.huffingtonpost.com
by M. Gary Neuman, psychotherapist, rabbi, and New York Times bestselling author

There are millions of adults who experienced the trauma of their parents' divorce 20, 30 or 40 plus years ago.  Some have found closure, but many more have not.  Regrettably, it is a time in a child's life that is never forgotten; it sticks with them.  For anyone who's experienced it, you know it isn't only about divorce.  It's about the years of tension in the home leading up to the divorce and those commonly miserable years after the divorce.

9 Basic Needs of Parents and Children for a Successful Adaptation to Divorce

by Kids First Center

Kids First has developed a list of nine basic needs of parents and children for a successful adaptation to divorce.  We believe that when parents attempt to meet as many of these needs as possible under the circumstances, the children will benefit enormously.  It is often not possible to meet all of these needs at any one time.
