How to Use Magazines to Teach Informational Text
New Giveaway - Four Subscriptions to Sports Illustrated Kids

One of the best ways to teach informational text is through the use of children's magazines. From Scholastic News to Sports Illustrated Kids, these magazines include articles that your students will enjoy while they are learning to read informational text. Every so often I do a giveaway for subscriptions to Sports Illustrated Kids, and I've just started a new one. It will run from today through March 18th, and I'll be choosing 4 winners in that time. Get the details on Corkboard Connections and enter to win! This article also includes loads of tips for teaching informational text with children's magazines. One of the entries is to promote the contest, and if you share this email with your colleagues, you can consider it done and click that option!

Elementary School Conference Call for Presenters

Are you interested in presenting a session at the Elementary School Conference in October? It will take place at the Embassy Suites in Concord, NC, which is near Charlotte. The event is hosted by the NC Association of Elementary Educators, and it's open to the public. This year's theme is "Mind, Heart, Body- Educating the Whole Child!" The keynote will be Dave Burgess, author of Teach Like a Pirate, so we expect a big crowd! If you are interested in presenting a session, please apply online using the form on the NCAEE website. The deadline for proposals is March 16th.
