Flashback to 1998
Doing some research this week and came across this article posted shortly after Chapter 180 became law.  Very interesting read in hindsight, the author predicted many of the results of that disastrous bit of legislation.

The Dark Side of the Gun Control Act of 1998

The Massachusetts Legislature increases taxes and bureaucracy, while threatening the safety of women and minorities

by Eric Darbe

January 13 -- This past summer Governor Paul Cellucci signed into law the most far-reaching gun law in the history of the United States.

Under the law:
  • The poor and minorities have been disproportionately affected
  • Women now find it more difficult to defend themselves
  • Governmental bureaucracy and power has been expanded
  • Taxes on gun owners have dramatically increased
  • Gun dealers could be forced to close their businesses
  • An unpopular minority group, gun owners, have had their rights sacrificed to the will of the fashionable anti-gun majority
One state Representative, Nancy Flavin (D-Easthampton) said of the new law, "Those people (law-abiding gun owners) legitimately felt they were being attacked by this, that they were literally being singled out and treated as criminals and that's a very legitimate viewpoint."
The act's sponsor, state Senator Cheryl Jacques (D-Needham) bragged, "This legislation will give Massachusetts the toughest gun control law in the country."

She, and other anti-gun advocates, argue that the act protects our children from gun accidents while still allowing for the ownership of firearms. Others believe that the Massachusetts' political establishment has turned its back on the founding fathers by passing legislation to restrict a right which was once thought essential to the preservation of liberty.

Supreme Court News
MILLER: Supreme Court to decide if buying a gun for a lawful person is a 'straw purchase'

The Supreme Court decided Tuesday to hear the case of a Virginia man who bought a gun for his uncle and was then convicted of committing a "straw purchase." The high court will determine whether it is a crime to buy a gun with the intent to resell to another lawful person.

Arguments for Abramski v. United States will take place in January.  Bruce Abramski, a retired police officer, bought a handgun for his elderly uncle because he could get it at discount as former law enforcement. Mr. Abramski checked the box on the federal background check form that said he was the "actual buyer."

Under federal law, handgun sales across state lines have to go through a federal firearms licensee. So, after buying the firearm in Virginia, Mr. Abramski drove to gun store in his uncle's hometown in Pennsylvania. His uncle filled out the federal background check forms, paid fees and the transfer was approved.

Please Support Rep. Humason Candidate for State Senate

Attention: The MA state Democrat party is working very hard to ensure voter turn out in the Second Hampden & Hampshire District general election for State Senate in order to derail GOAL Member and current State Representative Don Humason  from gaining the open State Senate seat.

Please do everything you can to support Rep. Humason in his campaign and encourage every eligible voter to cast a ballot on Tuesday November 5.  You can donate to his campaign by clicking here.  Please send him a donation today!

As many of you know the Massachusetts State Senate is incredibly out of balance.  Thirty six of the forty senate seats are currently held by Democrats.  They would love to make it 37.

Please do all you can to support Rep. Humason, go to your clubs, talk to your friends and neighbors, make sure that everyone you know will cast a ballot on November 5, 2013 for Rep. Humason.

Thank you.

Final Thought: Just the Facts
Fact: Because my town issues a class A LTC for "all lawful purposes" I can legally carry my handgun - concealed, in any city/town in Massachusetts, including many towns where the Chief of Police will not issue an all lawful purpose license to the residents of that city/town.

This is one of many ridiculous aspects of the current licensing system in Massachusetts.

There is no equal application of the law.
