Women's Foundation of Oklahoma - $5,000

Rose State College received funding to participate in the Single Mothers Academic Resource Team (SMART) Program.  Heading the program for the College will be Dr. Lisa Seale, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, and Rick Woodard, Director for Graduation and Career Services. The enables the College to    provide specialized student support services for single parent students. 
 

Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation - $35,000

Claudia Buckmaster, Dean for the Social Sciences Division, received funds to construct a state-of-the-art Mass Communications Center.  The Center will accommodate a dedicated computer lab, editing room, broadcast studio, and classroom.  The Center will enable students to gain experience working in a live broadcast center. 
 

SWOSU GRANTS

National Science Foundation via Davidson College - $12,000

Dr. Lori Gwyn, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics, received a Genome Consortium for Active Teaching (GCAT) Mini-Grant award for the project, "Equipment for Synthetic Biology Lab Module." The funds will be used to purchase equipment that will provide students opportunities to learn basic principles of nucleic acid chemistry analysis while applying this knowledge to a new application of DNA technology. Davidson College is in Davidson, North Carolina.  Dr.  A. Malcolm Campbell serves as the Principal Investigator for the GCAT funding received from the National Science Foundation.  He also serves as the Director of the Genome Consortium for Active Teaching, which is the name of the award.

  

Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribal Board - $234,909

Dr. Henrietta Mann, President of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribal College (CATC), received an award from the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribal Board. The cooperative agreement with Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU), in part, supports the administrative and accounting processes for the two-year tribal college on the campus. CATC provides quality education experiences to Native American students.

NASA via Oklahoma EPSCoR - $36,000

Dr. Randy Hunt, School of Education, received funding for "EPSCoR RIG Proposal 2015."


 

US Department of Agriculture - $22,000      

Dr. George Luker received funding for "Swine Outreach Activity."


 

US Department of Defense, Air Force - $200,000

Dr. Bryon Quinn received funding for "Biochemical Fatigue Metabolite Instrumentation." 

UCO GRANTS

National Endowment for the Humanities - $191,143

Dr. Jessica Sheetz-Nguyen, Assistant Dean, College of Liberal Arts and Professor, Department of History and Geography, in collaboration with the University of Texas-El Paso, received funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities for Monuments of Rome in English Culture, a Summer Institute for Teachers. The grant supports scholars in K-12 education to make connections between their disciplines and the humanities, classics, history, and social sciences.  The project will take place in Rome, Italy.

US Department of Labor - $746,684

Dr. James Machell, Dean, College of Education and Professional Studies, in partnership with It's My Community Initiative, Inc. (IMCI), based in Oklahoma City, received funds to provide an accelerated course of study to meet teacher training needs for ready to work participants.

American Electric Power Foundation - $3 million

 

Tulsa Community College received a grant to fund a new science, technology, engineering and math - or STEM - program that will benefit students in Tulsa Public Schools.

 

The program, called Credits Count, essentially seeks to work with students to prepare them to take college-level STEM classes and allows them to earn college credit while still in high school. grant program, over five years, will begin at Will Rogers College High School in 2016 and expand to a total of four TPS high schools and the middle schools that feed into them.

 

The program will allow students to earn credits toward a certificate in a STEM-related career or college degree in fields that include engineering and biotechnology. It is expected to help assess college readiness in about 1,000 students. The summer program is expected to help 800 students improve their math, science and English skills, and allow up to 800 students to receive credit for college-level classes. At the middle school level, about 3,000 students will participate in summer STEM college experiences.

 

The program will include four elements: STEM exploration, college course readiness assessments and tutoring, a summer bridge program to polish English and math skills, and dual enrollment in high school and at TCC.
