SJF Leads Equity Financing Round for NEXTracker
 

SJF Ventures has led a Series B financing as part of a $25MM equity and debt financing at NEXTracker, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of advanced single axis solar photovoltaic trackers.  The funding round includes investments from SJF Ventures, Tennenbaum Capital Partners, DBL Investors and Sigma Partners.  NEXTracker has a three-year agreement with SunEdison to provide trackers for 1.85 gigawatts of solar plants.  The firm is led by a team of solar veterans previously with PowerLight and SunPower and has utility-scale solar power plant installations in the U.S. and several other countries.  Dave Kirkpatrick and Dan Geballe led SJF's investment.  Read more.

SJF has invested in Civitas Learning, an Austin, TX-based Software-as-a-Service and data science company with a mission to help a million more college students learn well and finish strong.  Using a cloud-based, predictive analytics platform and engaging applications, Civitas Learning helps education partners bring deep insights to institutional decision makers.  The system's personalized, real-time recommendations also help students, faculty, and advisors to measurably improve student learning, persistence, and graduation.  Arrun Kapoor and Daniel Robinson led SJF's investment.  Read more.

ServiceChannel Investment Provides Successful Exit for SJF


 

SJF Ventures is pleased to share news that Bayard Capital Partners has partnered with ServiceChannel and provided growth capital for the company.  As part of the transaction, SJF received proceeds that generated a successful return on its investment.  ServiceChannel is a New York-based Software-as-a-Service company that allows facilities managers and contractors to collaborate more effectively.  More than 220 brands, including the top 5 U.S. retailers, use ServiceChannel each day at over 100,000 locations in 63 countries.  SJF first invested in ServiceChannel in 2008.  Read more.

Optoro Raises $50 Million Series C

 

Optoro Inc., a cloud-based technology company that enables retailers and manufacturers to increase their revenue from returned and excess inventory, closed a $50 million Series C funding led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and joined by Generation Investment Management with participation from existing investors.  Roughly 15 percent of all goods are either returned or become excess - totaling $500 billion annually in the U.S. and creating a costly logistical and environmental challenge.  Read more. 

Validic Reaches 100 Million Lives

 

Validic announced at the mHealth Summit that its platform for aggregating digital health data now reaches over 100 million lives.  Recent new clients include WebMD, Everyday Health and UPMC.  Read More.

Hyla Mobile Achieves New Device Trade In Record

 

In a sign of growing consumer awareness and appetite for mobile device trade-ins, Hyla Mobile announced that the company secured 1.6 million device trade-ins during a month, representing a 75 percent increase over the previous year.  Read more.

Students Complete Think Through Math Lessons to Raise Money for Wounded Warrior Project

 

In honor of Veteran's Day and in support of its charitable donations program, Think Through Learning matched all donations made by participating students and classes to the Wounded Warrior Project between November 5th and November 11th, up to $10,000.  Points for math lessons completed in the evening and over the weekend were included in this special matching program.  Read more.

 

Yieldbot Generates Rapid Growth

 

Jonathan Mendez, CEO of Yieldbot, summarized the the company's fast growth in 2014 in a year-end post citing a team increase from 29 to 62 individuals and a revenue jump of 650%.  The company ran over 1,500 advertising campaigns across 400 premium publisher partners, processing over 50 billion real-time decisions in 2014.  Read more.
