SJF in the News

SJF completed its fund-raising for SJF Ventures III at the end of April 2013. The capital raise ended with $90 million of investor commitments, three times the amount of SJF's previous fund. Read about SJF's new fund in Bloomberg Businessweek, GigaOm, PE Hub, Raleigh News and Observer, Triangle Business Journal, Venture Beat or the Herald Sun

SJF Ventures III was cited as an example of the growing interest of the U.S. and U.K. governments expanding their support for socially conscious entrepreneurs. The announcements at the G8 Social Impact Investing Conference indicate the growing appeal of for-profit small businesses that aim to create positive social and environmental impacts.

SJF Ventures Invests in Vital Farms Vital Farms logo

SJF Ventures has invested in Vital Farms, Inc., a Texas-based, sustainable agriculture company.

Vital Farms is the largest provider of pasture-raised eggs and poultry in the United States. The company's rapidly increasing base of loyal consumers has led Vital Farms to be ranked first in the food and beverage category in Inc.'s recent list of the fastest-growing U.S. private companies.

Through a strong attention to quality and a focus on the well-being of multiple stakeholders, the Vital Farms team has created a company that provides nutritious, superior-tasting food for consumers; differentiated products for channel partners; attractive economics for farmers; responsible land use for communities; ethical, humane living conditions for animals; and a thriving business for shareholders. SJF Managing Directors Alan Kelley and Cody Nystrom led the investment for SJF Ventures. Watershed Capital assisted Vital Farms in the transaction.
