As a lead up to this day, the CSS community will #givethanks  through a series of #attitudeofgratitude posts on Instagram and Facebook expressing why we are thankful for this fine school. Join us and share your CSS story!

And if you feel inspired --- make a gift at www.css.org/give.

Young Champion Ambassadors

Last week at City Hall before Mayor Suthers and a panel of community-minded judges, seven finalists made presentations and submitted artworks for review as they competed for the opportunity to represent the United States in ancient Olympia at this summer's Olympic torch lighting ceremony. Senior, Jack M., '16 had originally competed in an essay contest in English class that ultimately led him to be selected as one of 30 students in the first inaugural students in the Young Champions Ambassadors year-long program. Through his exploration of our community and the spirit of the Olympic movement, he rose as a finalist in the competition, while also being exposed to our city's finest assets. While Jack did not prevail at the top in the competition, he proudly represented our school and our city through his poise and leadership.

Storymakers Finalist

Congratulations to 8th grader, Paige R., '20 for being selected as a finalist of the Storymakers contest with Rocky Mountain PBS and CenturyLink.

This year the contest received 700 entries from schools throughout Colorado and only 24 finalists were selected --- eight stories from each grade (6th, 7th and 8th grade).

As a finalist, Paige will attend a story writing workshop which Rocky Mountain PBS is providing on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Rocky Mountain PBS Studios in Denver. In partnership with the Lighthouse Writers Workshop, Dr. Andrea Bobotis will be leading a part of the workshop. The other part of the workshop will be led by Laura Frank, President and General Manager of News at Rocky Mountain PBS. Ms. Frank will focus on telling stories from an investigative journalist's view point. (http://www.rmpbs.org/about/inews/)
Special thanks to 8th English teacher, Mrs. Hatch, for mentoring Paige in her writing.

  Requests
Research Project for Citizen Scientists
The Upper School Research and Experimentation Class at CSS is doing an experimental project and we invite you to participate as citizen scientists.

We propose to collect information on all of the large predators in our region. Here's what we'd like you to help us with:

Any time you see a large predator (listed below), please report it to us via email at research@css.org and tell us exactly where and when you saw it. Any other relevant information is useful too, such as if it was eating a squirrel or leading its babies around. Perhaps we can note the last bear wandering around before hibernation begins!

Any of the following animals is on our target list:
Mountain lion, Bear, Coyote, Fox, Bobcat.

The current project will only be active until December 5, 2015. Let us hear from you! We'll post the map at school when we're finished. Thank you very much for helping with this study.
