Jesus' Hometown & Sending His Disciples
Jesus said a very famous proverb early in his ministry: "A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home." (Mark 6:4)
When we read the story, we see that His hometown doesn't receive a lot from him in the way of healing and miracles. The push back Jesus received from his own family, friends and town actually puzzled Him. Look at this verse:
"And Jesus wondered at their unbelief..." (Mark 6:6)
This unbelief cued up an important turning point in the ministry of Jesus. Now He begins the sending of His disciples:
"And He summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs, and gave them authority..." (Mark 6:7)
An understanding that we gain from this passage is that:
Not everyone is going to respond positively to the gospel. It's still vital to do share it! Even Jesus had those close to Him push the Good News away...even though He was puzzled by it!
