Who Is This Guy?
Pastor Phil Helfer introduced a new teaching series for our Sunday morning time in the Scriptures from the Gospel of Mark.

As we began to dive into this book, we saw several important facets:

1) Mark moves FAST.  He is hitting high points and essential moments without much fluff. For instance, he doesn't even mention the birth of Jesus, but starts with John the Baptist and Jesus' own baptism.

2) We will see that Jesus is encouraging the concealment of His Messiah-ship -- it's a secret that gets revealed throughout the 16 chapters. People throughout the story are asking, "Who is this guy?"

3) We will see that Jesus is God, but shockingly He is a God who serves!

The key situation in Mark 1 which identifies Jesus as God comes at His baptism:

"Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him; and a voice came out of the heavens: "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased."

The Father calls out the Son of God...and Mark's Gospel will continue to show that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God!

We believe this new series is a GREAT one to invite people to learn the Gospel from the simplest of levels. If you've had someone that you've wanted to bring to hear the message, you know that this series will be centered on Jesus being the Good News!
