Who do you say that I am?
Most of the time Jesus doesn't claim to be the "Messiah" in the Gospels. Rather he pointed to the works the Messiah should be doing (from the Old Testament prophets) and then paralleled what He was doing.

The word Messiah = Anointed  = Christ.  In the Old Testament times on 2 people were anointed: 1) high priest & 2) King! Jesus was/is both of those!

In an important episode with his disciples (Matthew 16:13-18), Jesus asks the following:

"Who do you say that I am?"

Peter replies:

"You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God."

And Jesus gives us insight that God revealed Jesus as Messiah to Peter! God is about the work of revealing His Son as Messiah!

Jesus goes on to add, "On this rock I will build my church."  Through the centuries many have puzzled over what the rock is that He speaks of.  The rock on what Jesus build His church is  the proclamation (and truth:

You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God

The real question for you as you read this is:
Who is Jesus to you?  Who do you say that He is?
