Yahweh or "I AM" is the name God gave Himself (Exodus 3).
When Jesus comes on the scene, he doesn't fit the Pharisee's picture of a Messiah...or even a Good Rabbi!
In the beginning of John 8, the Pharisees go after Jesus by dragging the woman caught in adultery to him. After diffusing that situation, Jesus actually takes the Truth to the Pharisees.
Jesus starts by saying: "I AM the light of the world...
But The Pharisees say you are boasting about yourself (vs. 13)
Jesus responds, "My Father and I agree, so I'm not boasting"
The Pharisees chide back, "Where is your Father?"
Jesus answered, "You know neither Me nor My Father; if you knew Me, you would know My Father also."" (vs. 9)
This episode is over but picks up later...
And Jesus was saying to them, "You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I AM, you will die in your sins." (vs. 23-24)
This exchange gets very heated as the Pharisees accuse Jesus of even being a demon! They say they are true children of Abraham. After some more back and forth...
Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I AM."" (vs. 58)
Enraged the Pharisees attempt to murder Jesus, but He escapes!
Jesus claimed to be Yahweh...and proved it...so the question for you is "Who is Jesus to you?"
