We got back into our series on the names of God Series with the story of Abraham & Isaac in Genesis chapter 22. 

When God calls Abraham's name, he answers correctly "here I am." Then God asks about "only" son Isaac ( but he had another son, Ishmael was not a son of promise) to actually sacrifice him.

We don't know how he was feeling, but the New Testament tells us what he was thinking--that if he did have to sacrifice his son, that God would raise him back to life again. (Hebrews 11:19)

Abraham tells Isaac as he asks a pertinent question about where is the sacrificial animal, that "God will provide."

"Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."  He said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."

" Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son. Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide, as it is said to this day, "In the mount of the Lord it will be provided."

Many scholars believe, that Jesus likely died in this exact same place! -- God provided for you and me right there...a sacrifice of His Only Son!

God is the Great Provider!
