" Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted." This was our main text for the Sunday and provided fodder to talk about dealing with sin, helping others, church discipline and much more. We tend to apply external motivations when trying to see people change. We probably think about church and discipline wrong. Discipline is not about punishment, it's about restoration and transformation. Our job as children of God is not to enforce discipline- but to help our spiritual family see the the Gospel again. This is the right way to see Matthew 18. It's a reorientation toward the Gospel, not toward giving sinners the boot. Check out Pastor Phil's insightful message online or on iTunes.
