President George Washington issued the first federal Thanksgiving proclamation, declaring in part:
Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor. . . . Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November [1789] . . . that we may all unite to render unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection.

 In our 1 Corinthians series we examined a very encouraging passage about our future! Sin and Death are our great enemies, yet Jesus has provided the solution for both! Sin's sting has been rendered powerless and Death is swallowed in victory! The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. The whole family is invited for a time of communion, celebration & thanksgiving. This gathering will replace our morning Sunday school & church service & will include breakfast, foot washing, & the bread and cup. Childcare provided for nursery through 5th grade. More info about Communion >>
