In a second presentation by Mike McGinnis on Practical Righteousness, we headed down some very helpful tracks for living a Christian life:
Patterning*We develop automatic thought habits through practice.
*They never go away once they are there.
*Ex. Bike-riding, driving, video games, eating with utensils, anything we do over and over.
*Like digging irrigation ditch.
*Never goes away.
>>>To change, we have to dig a new deeper ditch!
Brain Chemistry
Dopamine-
*Pleasure, sense of well-being... a reward
*Chemistry says "Whatever caused this is good"
*Physical Intimacy, food, helping someone, sacrificing for someone else, reaching a goal.
*Ex. Getting a good grade, a degree, reaching a challenging accomplishment.
This kind of chemistry God built to reinforce good things! But it can be used by the evil one to prompt us away from Him.
Patterning and Chemistry can be an explosively good or explosively bad combination!
