Jumping back into our Tour of 1 Corinthians, we worked through a key passage on spiritual gifts. The intro to the passage actually leaves it broad--I want you to know about "spiritual things." The word for spiritual gifts here is actually "grace gifts." This is insightful for how we treat the gifts!
These "grace gifts" are given to us in a
variety of forms Paul says. We are mistaken when we try to limit God to a certain list of spiritual gifts. Isn't the Spirit bigger than that?
Paul goes on and shares that there is a
variety of ministries as well. We can't list all the ways in which you can minister either! The diversity of ministry is like a color palette! It's beautiful if done for God no matter what "color" it is!
Finally, about these spiritual things, Paul tells us there are a
variety of works/effects. The Corinthian church struggled with unity amidst diversity and God's tone in this letter is to make sure that the Corinthians are brought together in unity-- celebrating the various forms, ministries and works/effects. Go is working in all of us to get His Work done! There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons.
Paul goes further and says that each believer in Jesus receives stuff from the Spirit-for the Common Good!
The point of these Grace Gifts is to help EVERYBODY ELSE--not me! If we put our agenda on the back burner, then God can get His work done in and through us!
