We picked up again in our Tour of 1 Corinthians in chapter 11. Pastor Phil began laying a foundation for a puzzling passage where the Apostle Paul addresses what the Corinthians were wearing in worship. Paul doesn't lean into making new laws elsewhere in the all of his writings. He only writes only one command in this passage to the woman: "judge for yourselves" (in 11:13). An instructive point! This passage seems to be about liberty issues and about loving and respecting others! It's not giving a new law, but rather challenging both men and women to defer their preferences and live in harmony with the church! A metropolitan and diverse city like Corinth with new Christians and old Jewish Christians made for a zany Christian community. They were trying to figure it out together, and Paul was helping them point to loving each other! Listen again to Phil's message online.
