A PLACE YOU NEVER THOUGHT YOU'D BE
|
This Sunday, our beloved Ray & Char Hauser joined us. Ray has battled brain cancer while serving with his wife Char in a hospitality & discipleship ministry with military men and women stationed in Hawaii.Ray shared an emotional and powerful message about the spiritual wisdom they have gained through this trial. His text for the day was Psalm 73 which tracks the "whining" of the writer all the way to the "right" conclusion: But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.Ray candidly challenged us not to run to the typical "Why Me?" question that is the normal response. From his experience, he encouraged us to ask a different question "What Now?" In a poignant moment, Ray confessed that they pray with both hands lifted high to the Lord. The one hand is lifted up to God full of their prayer requests. And the other hand is lifted to receive whatever the Lord decides to give them.

SUSAN MAYO'S DAUGHTER REMEMBERS HER DAD & MORE
"Three years ago I (Dana Veca) lost my step-dad (Ron Mayo) to pancreatic cancer. It was quick, it was unfair, and it took a very loving man away from a family who adored and needed him. A few months ago, one of the most amazing women I know was diagnosed with this same horrible disease. She stands a fighting chance as it was caught early and she is incredibly healthy, but the fears that go along with a cancer diagnosis are awful. Truth be told, I think we are all scared for her.
I did this walk last year in memory of my step-dad. This year I will be doing it in memory of him, in support of my aunt, and in honor of all who have been affected by this." >>Read the rest

HOST JAPANESE STUDENTS THIS FALL

We have a golden opportunity to share the love of Christ with the Japanese in our own homes!Compass USA has been bringing students from the Osaka, Japan area for the last 7 years. This year 110 middle school students are visiting America through this particular program. Their stay in the Long Beach area is from 10/31 - 11/4. The students arrive early afternoon on Thursday, go to Disneyland on Friday, spend the weekend with their host family and then depart on Monday morning. Last year some of our church family hosted students: "We really enjoyed hosting two girls last fall. Nanako and Tomoyo were sweet and appreciated our time together. They were eager to try all kinds of food and to go to the mall and the beach. It was hard to say goodbye at the end of the weekend. We loved hosting these two girls and are signed up for this Fall!" - Shelly Deaton
Again, it's a short stay, but a great investment. It provides a great opportunity to engage with the other side of the world in our own home as well as a simple opportunity to love them with Christ's love. In exchange, your family has the opportunity to get a scholarship for your children to travel to another country: Japan, France or Spain. You can see the details here at http://aili.us . In any case, I'd love to partner with you in the gospel. Please call me 562.879.0191 or email lachica.pipeline@gmail.com if you have any questions about hosting. In Christ, Amy Lachica
