JESUS OUR REFUGE
As the the Israelites settled into their land, an important designation was made for the Cities of Refuge. In that day, the culture of justice operated on an "eye-for-an-eye" basis. There was retribution carried out for murder by the family of the one who was killed.

God's grace even working in this time allowed for a "refuge" for those who accidentally killed another person. This wasn't a system to protect murderers who premeditated their action, but provided protection if an accident happened and someone died.

These "cities of refuge" were marked out as a place where the person could escape to before retribution was delivered by an "avenger of blood." The cities were all places that were under the oversight of the priests.

It's really hard to ignore the reflection of Jesus in this. The people you flee to are the "priests"! And when the "high priest" dies, you are loosed to leave that city of refuge and live elsewhere.

During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek. (Hebrews 5:7-10 NIV)

Jesus, the one & only deserving one, died in my place. Not only did He die for me, but He took on the role of High Priest and will NEVER die! He will always be our refuge.

We don't just come to Jesus for refuge, we come to Him for life, in relationship and with forever security! We get so much more!!!

WORK MATTERS: A REFLECTION FROM BOB GENBERG

My bedside alarm activates and Jackson Browne's "Before the Deluge" nudges me out of my slumber. I get up in a sleepy haze and get dressed for work. I gather my backpack, kiss my wife and daughters goodbye, and fall into freeway traffic. Another workday has begun and I'm on autopilot. Lately, I'm realizing how easily and insidiously this has become my default mode. Autopilot....  >>>Read the rest here >>>

Encompass
Swimming upstream against the current model of "church," eight men and women were willing to risk all in their efforts to establish a church that reflected the priorities and values of the New Testament.

For a decade or so, their efforts were rewarded and the church steadily grew. Then came a change in provincial leadership, and persecution caused them to immigrate to the newly founded Penn's Colony (Pennsylvania)....Check out the rest HERE
