HealthCare.gov Relaunched with New Information

The Health Resources and Services Administration has re-launched HealthCare.gov with new information about the Marketplace, where families and small businesses will be able to easily compare and purchase high-quality health insurance plans starting October 1, 2013, with coverage beginning January 1, 2014. It's not too early to start researching options for your family; many people will be eligible for a new kind of tax credit to help pay their premium costs.

 

 

New Designs to Make Health Records Easier For Patients to Use 

HHS and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) has announced the winning designs of printed health records that help patients better understand and use their electronic health records (EHRs).

Expansion of Medicaid in Arizona

National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities

The Center works to:

Arizona Afterschool Program Directory

This is a tool to help match families with available afterschool program opportunities. It is a new project the Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence recently launched in partnership with the Valley of the Sun United Way.

 

 

College Scholarship for AZ Resident with Visual Impairment

The Arizona Council of the Blind (AzCB) is offering two scholarships--the John Vanlandingham Memorial and the Frank Kells Memorial--named in memory of two outstanding AzCB leaders. Each will be awarded to Arizona resident who is legally blind and will be attending college full-time in the fall of 2013. 

Apply at http://www.azcb.org. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2013.

Questions can be phoned to Gail Wilt, Scholarship Committee Chairperson, at 602-430-3315. Scholarships will be presented at AzCB's Awards Luncheon Friday, May 3.

 

 

UCP Afterschool & Summer Program Scholarship

United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona (UCP) is offering a one-year scholarship to eligible students with special needs from age 3 to 22 to enroll in UCP's after-school and summer program.

After-school program - September 1st through May 31st, 2:00 to 6:00 pm

Summer program - June 1st through August 31st, 1:00 to 5:00 pm.

Transportation provided within designated boundaries.

Eligibility:

1.     Individual must have a disability and will benefit from the program.

2.     Individual was not eligible for Title XIX services and/or denied funding by the Division of Development Disabilities.

3.     Individual must be attending pre-school, elementary school, Junior High School or High School, and at least 3 years old up to 22 years old and still attending school.

Guardianship Workshop

Does Your Child Need Guardianship?

Parents of children with special needs often need to file for guardianship in order to ensure on-going communication with doctors, educators and others. This program will focus on the process of applying for and obtaining guardianship, when it is needed, how it differs from a conservatorship or when a Power of Attorney might be sufficient. This two hour workshop with forms and instructions will include a Q & A opportunity. Attorneys will be available to provide one-on-one practical information and insight into the process. Sponsored by the Council for Jews with Special Needs and Jewish Legal Aid, a Start Me Up! project.

Pre-registration is recommended. Participants who pre-register no later than February 17th are guaranteed to receive a 42-page Legal Options Manual; a limited number of additional copies may be available to walk-in participants. Pre-register at info@cjsn.org or 480-629-5343.

First Annual ESA Provider Fair

Event will highlight private school/educational/therapeutic options available for students through Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) funds. The Fair offers families an opportunity to meet with and learn more about approved ESA service providers available for students. Arizona Department of Education representatives will also be there for questions, and parents are encouraged to bring children.

 

 

Seminar on Developing Emergency Plan

Dads4SpecialKids, in collaboration with H.O.P.E. Group, will be hosting a free seminar designed to assist individuals with special needs and their caregivers in developing their emergency and disaster plan. There will also be a discussion how to work with your local first responders in preparedness planning.
