York Connection
Tips For Seniors One of the best things about being senile is you can hide your own Easter eggs. My wife and I recently had dinner at the home of an elderly couple we have known for ages. Although we are not related, we think of them as aunt and uncle. After the meal, both women cleared the plates and took them to the kitchen, leaving Uncle Ned and me alone to share some "man talk."
While the ladies were busy preparing the dessert, Ned began to describe "a great new restaurant" where he and Aunt Rose had celebrated their anniversary. "I would recommend it very highly," he told me. "What is the name of the restaurant?" I asked. Staring at a spot on the wall behind me, Ned narrowed his eyes and puckered his lips, as if doing so would help him recall the name of the place. After several seconds of deep thought, he asked me, "What's the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know, the red one with the prickly thorns." "Do you mean a rose?" I asked. "Yes, that's the one!" Then, turning toward the kitchen, he yelled, "Rose, what's the name of that restaurant where we celebrated our anniversary?" - Chief Runamuck

Theologian In Residence
Adult Nurture wants you to be part of the 2016 Theologian in Residence weekend, March 4-6. We're offering a dynamic, knowledgeable speaker, Dr. Rodger Nishioka, who will address a subject important to every contemporary churchgoer: "21st Century Reformation: Exploring Together What is Challenging and Changing Our Church Today." Dr. Nishioka trains clergy to be educators; he knows what is and is not meeting the needs of present churchgoers and the next generation. Join us Friday evening, March 4th, for dessert and coffee at 6:30 pm and listen to Dr. Nishioka speak from 7-9 pm. On Saturday, March 5, we're serving a Continental breakfast at 8:30 am, and he'll speak from 9 am - noon. Sunday, March 6, he'll preach at both services and be available for Q&A in the Fireside Room during Ed Hour. |
