1 Peter 3:18
For Christ also suffered for his sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made a proclamation to the spirits in prison.

Ash Wednesday

GIPC's Ash Wednesday Service is at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 18. Ashes will be imposed and we will celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. The Lenten Sermon Series on the Seven Last Words that Jesus spoke from the cross will commence. Beginning on Ash Wednesday and concluding on Maundy Thursday, we'll explore the seven sentences Jesus spoke just before he took his last breath. The sermons series title is Words That Last.

On Ash Wednesday, we'll explore, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."

Youth Sunday

On Sunday, February 8, our Youth led a fantastic worship service! The youth band shared their musical talents, many youth wrote original prayers, others gave a message from the pulpit and still others used their best public speaking skills to read Scripture to us. The theme of the service was Spreading God's Word and in that service, that is just what our youth did. We are very proud of them for all their hard work and we are thankful to all those who came and worshiped with them.

Souptacular!
soup

The Souptacular fundraiser on Sunday, February 8, was a huge success. 60 church members gathered in Fellowship Hall to partake in 15 different delicious soups and 15 decadent desserts as well as to support the youth of our church as they work to raise funds for their 2015 mission trips. The Sr. Highs are spending a week in Detroit working with the Motor City Blight Busters and the Middlers are going down to Pittsburgh to work again with The Pittsburgh Project. Thank you all for coming out and helping us to raise $840.49!

Tips For Seniors

Ways you can save on your automobile operating expense:
*Check out problems sooner rather than later: If you delay getting a problem fixed, you could face a break-down or more expensive repairs.
*Drive less: If you can walk, bike or carpool, do it. It's better for the environment, easier on your wallet and better for your health.
*Short trips in wintertime (less than 10 minutes) are hard on a car's engine: excessive wear can occur, if it doesn't reach its normal operating temperature.
*Drive gently: accelerate slowly, avoid panic stops and don't rev a cold engine. Give the engine oil time to warm-up and circulate freely.
*Empty your trunk: hauling extra weight around demands more of the engine, creates suspension, braking and exhaust problems and reduces gas mileage.
*Keep tires at their recommended pressure: low tire pressure hurts mileage and diminishes tire life by causing uneven wear.
*Shop around for the lowest gas prices: the Gas Buddy web-site or phone app will locate the lowest prices in your area and on your route.
*Don't wait until your tank is empty to fill-up: do it when gas prices are their lowest.

"Surprised By Hope"

This Sunday, February 15, from 9:30 to 10:20 am, ANC begins a new Ed Hour class that will run through March 22: "Surprised by Hope" is a study of the N.T. Wright book by the same name, subtitled Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection and the Mission of the Church. In a conversation in which Wright explains his take on life after death, we find we have to reexamine our own thoughts about heaven, the present and the future.
Wright believes we do not die and 'go' someplace else to heaven. He contends that heaven will come to us; we will be resurrected and heaven will come to earth. He further contends that our misunderstanding about heaven has led to a misunderstanding about the way we should behave in this life - hence the surprise. Instead of behaviors focused on a future afterlife somewhere else, we should be focusing on a life that benefits this world and this earth.
Led by Nancy and John Colina, this is a conversation that will make us think long and hard about our heavenly beliefs, which in turn will make us rethink our beliefs about behavior this side of death. N.T. Wright is a noted scholar, and he is setting forth ideas that will challenge us, surprise us and lend hope.
