February 8 Isaiah 40:21-22 Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the foundations of the earth? It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to live in...

Welcome, Sam McKee!
On Sunday, Nov. 16, we were pleased to welcome Sam McKee as a new member of GIPC. During 2014, Sam began attending GIPC services as a visitor with Brian Ralston. Sam will tell you that it didn't take long to feel the welcome and accepting atmosphere at GIPC, so she attended the "Getting Started at GIPC" class and met with the session before being introduced to the congregation.
Sam comes to GIPC as a former Roman Catholic. She graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and is a CPA and an accountant at Ford Motor Company. She is the proud mother of Stephanie, who is presently following in her mother's footsteps as a senior at the University of Michigan-Dearborn studying finance and accounting. Sam lives in Riverview and enjoys spending time outdoors, walking and bike riding. You might spot Sam and Brian bike riding around Grosse Ile in the warmer months.
Please take the opportunity to introduce yourself to Sam and give her a warm welcome to GIPC. Sam, we're glad you're here!

Sending Sunday: Blankets 4 Kids
Fifty no-sew fleece blankets were completed for child victims of sexual abuse and will be delivered to children in Detroit. May these blankets convey GIPC's love and care, security and protection. We pray: May the children who receive them be empowered to live exciting new lives of hope and healing, fulfillment and achievement. Bless the work of many hands as we thank You for the opportunity to serve in Jesus' name. Amen. |

York Connection
I'm a man. I can change, I guess...
(Red Green)
After years of marital problems, a woman finally succeeded in dragging her clueless husband to a counseling session. When the therapist asked what their problem was, the wife went into a passionate tirade, describing how she had suffered during their forty years of marriage. Near tears, she ranted on and on, describing her husband's neglect, their lack of intimacy and the loneliness she felt. She complained that she felt unloved, even unlovable, listing all her unmet needs and the pain she had endured as a result of them.
The attentive therapist listened patiently. After allowing her to thoroughly vent her frustration, the therapist got up from his chair, walked around his desk and asked the drained and exhausted woman to stand. He then swept her into a fervent embrace, kissing her passionately on the lips. The husband watched, as the therapist released his embrace and allowed the dazed and confused wife to collapse, into a chair.
The therapist then turned to the husband saying, "This is what your wife needs at least three times a week...Can you do this?"
The husband thought for a moment and replied, "Well, I can drop her off on Monday and Wednesday, but I play euchre on Fridays..."

Youth News
Youth Sunday
It's that time of year again! The youth are leading the entire worship service on Sunday, February 8 at both 8:15 and 10:30am. The focus of that Sunday will be on the importance of spreading the good news of the Gospel and the Scripture is 1 Corinthians 9:16-23. The youth band will also be playing that Sunday. We invite you all to come out and hear the good news from our younger generation!
Human Sexuality Retreat
Sexuality can be a difficult topic to tackle with youth but January 9-11, our 6-9 graders went on a retreat with 5 adults from our congregation to spend the whole weekend talking about just that. The days were full of great discussion, interesting questions, and a whole lot of fun. Youth Nurture is very pleased with the weekend and is excited to do it again in the future.
