Psalm 139: 1-3
O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.

Blankets 4 Kids

Attention Non-Sewers!

On Sunday, Jan. 18, after each service, you will have the opportunity to make a no-sew fleece blanket for a child victim of sexual abuse to be used during their medical exams. We would be supporting Kids-TALK Children's Advocacy Center in their efforts to comfort these children. THE NEED IS GREAT! Over 7000 abuse and neglect intakes oc
cur in Wayne County every year.

Bring sharp scissors with you for cutting the fringe.

Contact Jeanne Kennedy from the Mission and Stewardship Committee for more information.

Too Cold and Slippery to Walk Outside?

Come walk at the church. 14 times around the inside hallways is one mile.  If you go up the west steps to the second floor and down the south steps, 13 times around is one mile. No excuse to skip walking this winter!

Thank You
I am so very grateful for all the cards and letters you have sent. It means so much that my church family remembers me. I look forward to the mail knowing that I will hear from you.

Jane Rose
Welcome, Bruce Ranck

On Sunday, Nov. 16, we were pleased to welcome Bruce Ranck as a new member of GIPC. During the past few years, Bruce has been attending GIPC with his wife Tammy. Bruce attended the "Getting Started at GIPC" class and met with the session, and after coordinating schedules, we were able to introduce Bruce to the congregation on Nov. 16.

Bruce comes to GIPC from his former church in Houston, and he still visits Houston on a regular basis. If you ask Bruce if he is retired, he will smile, hesitate, and tell you that he still travels a lot. Bruce likes playing golf, fishing, and reading. Could any of his travel be in search of the next challenging golf course or in pursuit of the "one that got away?" Only Bruce can say for sure!

Please introduce yourself to Bruce when you have the opportunity and give him a warm welcome to GIPC. Bruce, we're glad you're here!

Keeping Grandchildren Safe

Every year, more than 60,000 children five and under are treated at hospital emergency rooms for accidental ingestion of household medicines. According to the Alliance for Aging Research, more than one-third of those poisonings are from a grandparent's medicine! Factors contributing to these statistics are an increased use of prescription drugs and over-the-counter remedies, an increase in the number of multi-generational households and more grandparents serving as primary childcare providers.

Keep children safe by following these practices:

  • Store all medicines and vitamins up, away and out of sight.
  • Keep purses, bags and coats containing medicines out of reach and out of sight.
  • Children have been known to defeat childproof caps.
  • Lock caps tightly and put your medications away immediately after use.
  • Most daily pill reminder kits do not have lockable lids.
  • Use Post-it notes to remind yourself to take your out-of-reach, out-of-sight medicines.

Most people realize toxic products such as bleach should be stored where children cannot reach them. An item few people recognize as a peril to children is premeasured, prepackaged laundry detergent. The colorful little packets are attractive to small children who mistake them for candy. You can help prevent accidental poisoning by taking the same precautions with these cleaning products that you take with your medications and vitamins: store them out of sight and out of reach!

Prepare for a poison emergency by programming the National Poison Help Line (800-222-1222) into your phone.

Yoga "Feeling Fit" Class

Transportation Survey
The following is a questionnaire that appeared in the bulletin on Sunday.  We didn't have a lot of response and wonder if those who actually need the service may be staying home due to weather or other issues.

The York Connection discussed the need for transportation help for church members and others to attend the many fun, interesting and educational events in and around our church.  We haven't a clue whether or not this is an issue so thought it might be helpful to take a survey.

Are there things that you do not do because you do not have transportation?

How do you believe the church could accommodate your needs?

If you would like to respond to this survey, you may either call Sue Hurst at 734-671-1530 or email her at hursts@wowway.com with your information and/or suggestions.

Thank you from The York Connection
