. . . to focus our attention on what God is doing in the world through God's people.
. . . to show that service is an act of worship.
. . . and to demonstrate that God is sending us to love and serve the world in Jesus' Name.

York Connection

Named after its benefactor, Anne York, who bequeathed money to be used for older adults, a Task Force was formed to determine what should be offered to this age group and what needs have not yet been met. Physical comfort, spiritual enrichment, social interaction for this age group, what might be needed in the way of financial education and unique emotional needs for this time of life were considered.
This ministry provides interrelated services and programs for care, education, learning, fellowship and social activities, and facilitates service, mentoring, and mission outlets.
Watch for monthly announcements and our bookmark calendar of events as well as information in our Sunday bulletin.

All adults are encouraged to be involved in the activities and events of the York Connection. The Task Force welcomes your feedback as we go forward. It matters very much that you know how important you are to our congregation. Please contact Kathy Rankin at kathyr67@sbcglobal.net if you have questions, comments or suggestions.

Just Us Ladies Interested in an Evening Together

We are a group open to all ages of women who want to go out to eat, go to a movie or concert, see an exhibit at the DIA or get together to learn from one another. There is no registration, no attendance requirements. If an activity sounds like something you would like to do, join in the fun. The possibilities are endless. We have a JULIETs board that is planning the activities for this year. See names below. Do you have a great idea? Give any one of them a call.

We are committed to provide rides for those who would like a ride and we strongly encourage car-pooling.

Check out the first 2 activities:

1. On Sunday, October 19, meet at MJR Southgate at 2:30 to see the movie "The Judge". Go out to dinner afterwards. Sign up at the Crossroads if you would like a ride. Otherwise just show up at the theater.

2. On Sunday, December 7, we will go to the Theater on the Avenue in Wyandotte to attend the "3 Men and a Tenor Christmas Concert". Tickets are $20. Make your paid reservation at the Crossroads. They expect to sell out so buy your ticket early.

Story of Moses

Children are studying the story of Moses' birth and the Exodus. They learned how Moses was placed in a basket to save his life. The children are doing colorful weaving.

Diaper Drive
Children's Nurture and the children of the church are having a diaper drive now through Thanksgiving. We are collecting packages of disposable diapers, any kind and size, to give to Fish and Loaves, our mission project for this year. The need is great so any help you can be will be greatly appreciated. Leave your donations at the Crossroads.

SENIOR HIGHS

Coffee House 9:15-9:30am
This year we are trying something new! We'd like to invite
both our Sr. Highs and Middlers to come each Sunday morning to our Coffee House, a time for coffee, tea, donuts, and just catching up with each other about what all has happened in the past week. Come on out for some sweet treats and caffeine!
 Education Hour 9:30-10:20am
Sunday mornings we meet in the Senior High Lounge. During this time we explore ways to grow in our relationship with
God, learn more about the life, death and resurrection of
Jesus and discuss how our faith impacts the way in which we interact with the world around us. Our time of study is
relevant and real! We hope you will consider joining us.
 Mission
Mission is an important part of growing in our relationships
with Jesus Christ. Youth have opportunities to share God's
love by volunteering in places such as local soup kitchens,
retirement homes and food pantries. This summer, we are an embarking on a week-long mission trip that will stretch our
understanding of how God works in the world. We will immerse ourselves in a new culture to witness and experience the love of Christ.
 Fellowship
We believe having a relationship with Jesus Christ means
having fun! Throughout the school year activities like games, movies, concerts and lock-ins and retreats will be scheduled.
"Christianity's Family Tree"

Adult Nurture invites you join us for "Christianity's Family Tree", meeting October 19 through December 7, 9:30-10:20 am

During this video/book study, written and narrated by Adam Hamilton, and led by Flora Case and Mike Iglehart,we will learn about the belief systems and practices of various Christian denominations and what they contribute to the whole of Christian faith.

Some of them are very mainstream - Lutheranism, Catholicism, Baptists and, of course, Presbyterianism. Some are a bit less familiar: Pentecostalism, for example, and Orthodoxy. Hamilton shows us there's more than one style to Christianity and explains why the diversity of the many parts strengthens the whole.

Each of the next 8 Sunday mornings will be given to one denomination. If you have to miss a week, you can learn about another Christian faith the next week. Books will be available for order in class for $12.

"Christianity's Family Tree" is an excellent way to get an overview of what makes some of our Christian relations different from us and what makes them alike. Most of all, it reminds us we're all part of the same family.

   See you in class!

Parker Chorale Performance

 Music

The Parker Chorale, a subgroup [28 singers] of the Grosse Ile Chorale is appearing at the Michigan Choral Directors Association's Fall Conference at the First Presbyterian Church of Flint during the morning concert on Saturday, October 25, 2014. The concert includes three choirs, and the Parker Chorale is the third one. It begins at 10:30 am.  The address is 746 S. Saginaw Street, Flint, MI 48502-1508.  Mapquest says it's 1 hour and 37 minutes from Grosse Ile. Tickets are $5 for guests.
The Parker Chorale, named after its director, James Parker, was formed in 1986, to perform music for Dr. Parker's doctoral concert, in partial fulfillment for his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Michigan State University. The chamber size choir was called the Doctoral Choir at the time, but was renamed a few years later, when it was decided to continue the Lenten concert series. These concerts have continued to take place during Lent at the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church ever since. Choirs singing in the concerts now feature the Grosse Ile Resident Chorale of 60 singers, the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church Adult Choir, the Grosse Ile Children's Choir and the Parker Chorale.
The Grosse Ile Touring Chorale was formed in 1998 to take international tours, and have made seven such tours, most recently to New Zealand this past summer.
