Sides, Sauces & Souffles

Celebrate spring with "Sides, Sauces and Souffles,"
courtesy of Matt Hurst, on Sunday March 23.
From 2-5 pm, Matt will show us new takes on side dishes and tasty sauces that liven up what
we're serving. Then, when he's done teaching us new slants on standard fare, he'll finish up with a lesson on making a mouth-watering souffle.
As usual, we'll be enjoying the finished recipes, tasting everything as it's completed.

$15 a person, payable in advance.  Sign up at the Crossroads this Sunday for this one-time class. 20 person maximum; there will be a waiting list.

One Great Hour of Sharing
Lent

The One Great Hour of Sharing Offering invites us at GIPC to give generously during this season of Lent. Our contributions go toward the rebuilding of hope to the people affected by a natural or man-made disaster by empowering them to recover and rebuild their communities. In the face of challenging social and economic circumstances, the contributions assist with community growth and progress. Hunger program efforts include training in organic farming and the development of food-based small business. You may read in more detail about these programs in the Sunday bulletin inserts.
Special envelopes for the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering may be found in the Sanctuary pew racks.

Lent ~

"The festivals and seasons of the Christian year offer a way to order the annual life of the church according to the life of Christ and the events of salvation history. Lent is a season of spiritual discipline and preparation, beginning with Ash Wednesday, anticipating the celebration of the death and resurrection of Christ . . ."

(Presbyterian Mission Agency, Office of Theology and Worship)

Women's Lenten Bible Study

All women of the church are invited to join the Lenten Bible Study: "Journey to the Cross" continuing on Monday Evenings during Lent. Each week we will focus on a different theme - repentance, humility, suffering, lament, sacrifice and death. Our hope is that as we together immerse ourselves in the drama of Christ's journey to the cross, our appreciation of Easter will increase, and our love for Jesus will grow. We meet at the home of Anna Kostaroff at 7:00 pm.

Men's Lenten Breakfasts
Men's Lenten Breakfasts continue each Saturday at 8 am. during Lent except on April 5th when our Theologian in Residence will present his seminar. Details and sign up are at the Crossroads.

Coming soon!

Did you know the Property tax Exemption for disabled veterans has been expanded?
In November of 2013, Governor Rick Snyder signed legislation that expands eligibility for the Michigan homestead property tax exemption and extended it to include spouses of veterans who qualify and have not remarried. The property tax exemption eases the cost of home ownership for military veterans who were honorably discharged and are disabled and unable to work. A Michigan Department of Treasury Form 5107 must be filed with the supervisor or assessing officer any time after December 31 and before, or until the conclusion of, the December Board of Review. Spring Is Here!

   Well, maybe not really

but now that we have your attention, we'd like to tell you about the Green Team and Adopt a Plot.

The Green Team is a subcommittee of the Property Committee that helps to maintain the church grounds. We meet a few times during the growing season to work in the flower and shrub beds. Our next meeting is the spring clean up.
Bring rakes and your favorite tools Saturday, May 3 from 9-Noon at the church.

Adopt a Plot is an opportunity to get folks involved with the church grounds. We've identified 15 plots on church grounds that need regular weeding. Please consider adopting one to maintain this summer. The sign up poster is at the Crossroads.

*Choose a plot to maintain during the summer (May-October)
*After the mulch is in place, spend a few hours a month keeping your plot weed-free.
*Work at your own pace and at your convenience.
*Flowers are provided for specific areas.
