Ronald McDonald House
A big "thank you" goes to all of the recent volunteers at Ronald McDonald House. On April 26th Madge McGoorty, Paige Kruse, Bill Rito, Kathi Rito, Grace Iglehart and Kathy Benton served dinner to the families of children being treated at Children's Hospital. On May 17th, Bill Rito, YiChia Schmaeman, Mary Sue Sickafus and Kathy Benton served the families temporarily residing at Ronald McDonald House.
On Friday, June 7th at 10:00, we will return to cook and serve breakfast. We hope you will consider joining our ministry at Ronald McDonald House.
Signups are at the crossroads. Any questions, please contact Kathy Benton. |

York Connection
Emergency contacts...
The York Connection Task Force recently has become aware that our church office family records could be a bit more complete. This is purely optional .... and your personal information will be shared only 'as needed' by pastoral staff. If you would be so kind as to let Lea Kohler know who your family or friend contact members are with their phone numbers and whatever other information you'd like the church to have for this purpose. Please inform your relatives or friend that GIPC may be contacting them in case of emergency. Contact Lea Kohler at lkohler@gipc.org
The assumption that the 'church' knows all this information is not necessarily the case. Your privacy will be respected and is treasured. For example, I have given Lea the names of my three sons, their wives, and their children and phone contact numbers. Even I, who knows better, have been lax in updating my 'family' information. If I am to lead by example, then I should practice what I preach! Oh well, confession is good for my soul.
Thanks!
Helen Morrison, member of the York Connection Committee
Tips For Seniors
Scam of the Month: Avoiding the Nigerian Letter or "419" Fraud: *If you receive a letter from Nigeria asking you to send personal or banking information, do not reply in any manner. Send the letter to the U.S. Secret Service, your local FBI office or the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. You can also register a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission's Complaint Assistant. *If you know someone who is corresponding in one of these schemes, encourage that person to contact the FBI or the U.S. Secret Service as soon as possible. *Be skeptical of individuals representing themselves as Nigerian or foreign government officials asking for your help in placing large sums of money in overseas bank accounts. *Do not believe the promise of large sums of money for your cooperation. *Guard your Social Security number and account information carefully. http://www.fbi.gov/scams-safety/fraud/fraud

Presbyterian Women of Detroit
The new moderator of the PWPD was installed at the May 1 gathering. Joan Lockard will serve for two years after her installation at New Life Presbyterian Church, her home church in Clinton Twp. Three women from GIPC attended the luncheon: Pam Frucci, Dianne Bridges, and Anita Teresko, who was also asked as a lay minister to give the 10 minute devotions at the gathering.
Health Fair Kits If you would like to put together a health kit for Second Mile Center, the Presbyterian Women of Detroit's mission in Detroit, a list of items needed is posted on the bulletin board. I will be helping out at the fair on July 29 and would be happy to take filled kits on that day. They're distributed to families who attend the fair where doctors and nurses check blood pressure, blood sugar, and perform other tests. The children who come are treated to games and refreshments thanks to volunteers from the Presbyterian Women of Detroit.

Mary/Martha Circle
After spending 2012-13 studying Dispatches to God's
Household...The General Epistles, Ron Case led Mary/Martha Circle through their last Bible study on May 21. Books were collected and member Pam Frucci will take them to an organization in Fowlerville that distributes them around the world to those who are looking for Bible study books. If you would like to donate your book, see Pam.
Also, those who want to order the new Bible study for 2013-14: An Abiding Hope...The Presence of God in Exodus and Deuteronomy should pay the church office $8 and the order will be placed before next September.
Mary/Martha Circle invites other women to join them in fellowship and Bible study every third Tuesday from September to May beginning at 12 noon to around 2 p.m. Each participant brings her own lunch and a different person leads the group through the lesson each month.
Mary/Martha Circle collects Least Coin and Campbell Soup labels. A large bag of clipped labels and box tops were turned over to Meridian Elementary School on May 23 where they are used to purchase needed equipment. Since Mary/Martha Circle doesn't meet in the summer, there's a collection container (in the form of a tomato soup can) in the kitchen for GIPC members to donate labels and box tops for the schools. |
