Bright Sunday
Come one, come all, on Bright Sunday, April 7th, to celebrate the Good News in a new and joyful
way! Bright Sunday is a lesser known tradition that dates back to the early days of Christianity and exists in various forms in many different Christian denominations.
Friends of the Groom will perform in both worship services and will present additional material during the Education Hour. All ages are invited to attend. There will be no regular Sunday morning classes. Plan to come and experience the good news as the team "[proclaims] the Christian message with a unique blend of humor, story, challenging content, and scenes that are hard to forget." And please -- invite your friends and wear "bright" colors!
Friends of the Groom is an inter-denominatio nal group located in Cincinnati, Ohio. They have performed plays, led retreat weekends, and conducted workshops in thousands of locations from Anchorage to Athens.

Tips For Seniors
Young people today move at a hectic pace. Some view seniors as having been placed on earth for the sole purpose of impeding their progress. Years ago, I witnessed a young man honking his horn at an elderly woman who had stopped her car in the middle of the road. After she repeatedly ignored his screams to move-on, he whipped his car around hers to suddenly discover himself at the bottom of a huge sinkhole. Now, fifty-plus years later, I take great pleasure testing the patience of young drivers by driving the posted speed limit. Old folks rule!
Which of the following are true? 1. After age 65, people become set in their ways. 2. After 65, people should not be allowed to drive. 3. Most older persons are all alike. 4. Most older persons end up in nursing homes. Answers: 1. Older people are set in their ways, but only if these are habits they have developed, over their lifetime. If it works, don't fix it! 2. Older people are more courteous, more cautious, take fewer risks and cause fewer accidents than young adults and teenagers. 3. Older persons have continually grown and changed over the years and are therefore more diversified than any other age group. 4. Although 20% of older adults will spend some time in a nursing home, only 5% of them live in a nursing home, at any one time.
(Older Adult Ministry: A Guide for the Presbytery Committee)
Scam of the month: Con artists know an older adult would do anything to aid a grandchild in trouble. By scanning social networks, such as Facebook, they are often able to dig up personal information about you and your family. Some are even clever enough to mimic a familiar voice. A typical ploy is pretending to be a grandchild stranded abroad, without money, and unable to return home. Avoid allowing emotions to blur your judgment. Before sending money, confirm the caller's identity and his/her whereabouts.
Game Day - Wednesdays, 4-6 pm
Meet in the west side of the Fellowship Hall to play Euchre, Canasta, Mahjong, Dominoes, or bring your own game. Guests are always welcome. |

 New GIPC Directory
You will soon have the opportunity to have your picture in our new church directory.
Why would you want to do it? We have found you bond more quickly by putting a name with a face and you will receive a directory and an 8x10 picture at no cost. Nothing else is required other than your time. Of course, there will be other options available to you such as a sheet of wallet size photos or a 5x7 for $20, but you don't have to buy anything.
If you haven't already signed up, please stop by the Crossroads after the 8:15 or 10:30 service on Bright Sunday, April 7, to reserve your photo session!
The dates for the photo shoots are as follows: 1) Thursday, April 18 (3-8:50); 2) Friday, April 19 (3-8:50pm); 3) Saturday, April 20 (10am-3:50pm); 4) Friday, May 10 (3-8:50 pm); 5) Saturday, May 11 (10am-3:50 pm).
An hour should be allowed for the session. If you are unable to make one of these dates, we shall try to schedule another time. Please contact Jeanne Kennedy.
If you choose to have a multi-family generational picture, we can accommodate this. We can schedule adjoining photo shots for each family. Pets may also be included toward the end of the day.
We would like to include a page of our service personnel. If the related families would send a photo to Jeanne Kennedy, I would appreciate it.
I would love to view any pictures you have involving GIPC events for use in our new directory. Please forward any questions or photos to Jeanne Kennedy at ajskennedy@yahoo.com or 28860 Swan Island Dr., Grosse Ile, MI 48138. Please indicate if you would like the photo returned.
After April 8th, if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, call direct to Re:member at 866-557-2253 (toll free).
We really encourage you to be part of this directory. It is an important part of our history. |
