The holidays are a great time of year to embrace the 'more is better' attitude when it comes to expressing yourself.Whether you're more of a traditionalist, a sophisticate or a creative (or a little bit of all three), you can up the festive quotient through the use of luxurious fabrics and particularly chosen accessories.
Traditional Holiday
Colors are typically red and green, gold and black, green and black. Wear them in rich fabrics like brocade, satin and velvet (these can work for the guys too)...add multiple strands of pearls, or a bold gold necklace and bracelet or a cluster of holiday-themed brooches. Kitten heels or black satin pumps are perfect, as are cream-colored heels.
Sophisticated Holiday
A column of color, white or black is always an elegant look, as is a tuxedo pant, paired with a satin cream-colored fitted blazer and silk tank. A large graphic print on a pencil skirt, paired with slim black stiletto boots makes a chic statement. Or to add in a bit of sparkle, try a sequined long-sleeved, knee-length dress with a classic metallic high heel.
Creative Holiday
Colors can mix bold and subtle such as fuchsia pink (or another bright) and dove grey, or gold and lime green, or royal blue and cream. Pair a tuxedo jacket with skinny dark-wash jeans and leopard heels. How about a faux fur short jacket in an unexpected color, or black sequined pants with a cream-colored bulky knit sweater and silver snake-skinned pumps.
You don't have to stick with one style for the holidays - dinner parties may call for one style, while a casual at-home get-together could be more playful. Don't be afraid to have some fun with your holiday attire.
