So you never wear florals? or pastels? or sneakers? or colored mascara? May I ask why? It's okay to say that it's 'just not my style'. But instead of just sticking with the status quo every day, why not use this season to have a little fun - mix it up a little. I understand if you can't do it in your professional environment, but how about in your down-time? What's the worst that could happen? You might have a good laugh and enjoy the fact that you gave it a go. What's the best that could happen? You might have a good laugh and enjoy the fact that you gave it a go!

Add a denim jacket to a classic skirt or trouser. Denim is so versatile - don't restrict it to just casual wear. I love it with a classic animal print pencil skirt and heels. Perhaps consider adding a white denim jacket into the mix - they both will work perfectly over maxi dresses, with capri's, khaki's, colored jeans, and even a simple black skirt.

Wear a colorful pair of flats or tennis shoes to jazz up your casual outfits. You can find lots of affordable choices at places like
DSW, for one example. I recently helped coordinate the models at a fashion show, and one of the models showed up looking just smashing in an all white pant outfit, accented with an orange scarf and the cutest orange tennis shoes. She looked amazing - she's in her 80's. Don't be afraid of color!

Team rocker booties with a dress or high heels with Bermuda shorts. This is an easy way to add some flair to your summer wardrobe basics. Wear them in an unexpected way and you'll add a whole new dimension to what you can do with what you've got in your closet right this moment.
Try pattern with pattern - florals or checks with stripes, or stripes with polka dots, or horizontal and vertical stripes together. This is one of my favorite 'get out of the box' tips, and one that many people find difficult to do. The summertime is the perfect time to give it a try, though, because the mood is light and carefree, so why not? The key is to find a common color element to tie the pieces together, and to keep the scale of the prints in sync. (Let me know if you'd like a little help with this one - once you get the hang of it, I think you'll have a lot of fun with it!)
Wear a colored mascara, complementary to your eye color. If you can't go quite that far, try a colored eyeliner. For example, with blue or green eyes try a plum or purple; for brown, try a turquoise. You can pick up some very easy-to-use pencils at
Sephora, in their store brand, that let you play around with color. These colors are available in very bright hues, but you can also find them in muted tones to really help add focus on your lovely peepers. For a little cheat-sheet on eyeliner tips,

Paint your toenails a color you've never worn before. Maybe the sherbet colors, like in the photo, or if you've never worn a bright red or coral, try that. I'm thinking of playing with a deep navy. Even if your personal style is very conservative, your colorful toes hidden in your shoes will be a secret delight to you.
