Look Fab Without Breaking the Bank

If you're like me, you're in full "holiday express" mode. Presents to buy...travel plans to finalize...friends to see...parties to plan and attend.  With any luck, if you read and implemented any of last month's tips, you won't be stressing about your holiday attire.  But even with the best laid plans, it seems there are always last minute occasions that arise, and all of a sudden its..."OMG! What am I going to wear?"  This month's Bulletin features some quick and easy holiday fashion-fixes that can help you with those last-minute 'emergencies', and best of all, they won't break the bank.

Speaking of banks, as a little thank you to you, my faithful readers, I'm offering a free 20-minute phone consultation to help you with any 'fashion dilemma' you might be having. But you have to do something to redeem it: the first five people to reply to this email with "Free Consultation" in the Subject line will receive a 20-minute phone consultation, which you can redeem now or in January.

I appreciate your readership and friendship over the years. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Look Fab Without Breaking the Bank

You don't have to spend a ton of money to look like a million bucks.  Any one of these little tips will help you easily put together a great holiday look, using items you may already have in your closet.

Why not...wear a great red lipstick and keep the rest of your make-up neutral?  There truly is a red for everyone and it instantly says 'festive'.

Why not...(in keeping with the red lipstick) wear a red pump with an all-black outfit?  Or maybe with an all-winter-white outfit?

Why not...make your skirt the center of attention? Maybe a pencil skirt in leather or lace or leopard print...pair it with a simple top or maybe a leather jacket.

Why not...wear a fur (or faux fur) stole over your LBD? It doesn't have to be black - maybe you'll want to wear one in brown, or white, or maybe a fun color.

Pinterest: What's Your Style? Dramatic?

Why not...dress head-to-toe in black and add touches of gold, such as a bold gold belt and gold clutch?  (This is one of my personal favorites!) If silver is your metal of choice, go for it - all metals look great with black!

Why not...wear an embellished flat? They're readily available with bows, sequins and jewels. Or maybe you'll want to add your own embellishment...got any of your mother's or grandmother's great old clip earrings? They can make a unique, vintage-inspired embellishment!

Why not...wear a large jeweled necklace as a statement against your crewneck sweater or top?  There are many beautiful pieces out there, at great price points, at places like J. Crew, Zara and Target.

A Few Things Your Hostess Does NOT Want to Hear...
and since you've probably heard some of these at gatherings you've hosted, I'm sure you can relate.  This Huffington Post article was written about the Thanksgiving holiday, but it's applicable to any gathering.  It might make a good tutorial for the younger members of the family?

Are You Guilty of "Phubbing"?  I beg your pardon! Actually, I hadn't heard of this before, but it's short for "phone snubbing" - neglecting people in real life to use your phone.  This infographic shows the results of a recent survey about phone etiquette that you might find surprising...

Fascinators and Tea

I recently joined my image colleagues from AICI SFBA for a holiday tea at The Rotunda in Neiman Marcus, where the theme was 'fascinators'.  As you can see, they ran the gamut from vintage to festive, and believe me... we got so many delightful comments from people in the store and people on the street.  You may want to try this little trend we've borrowed from the British yourself. I got mine from an adorable store in St. Helena - Amelia Claire. They have lots of hats as well (not to mention shoes, clothes, etc. - love it!)

Since we recently memorialized the 50th anniversary of the death of JFK, and since I'm such a Jackie fan (her style was impeccable), I'd like to share this recent retrospective of her style through the years.  Enjoy!
