DeStress Your Holidays

November 2012

Greetings!

I don't know about you, but it seems the holiday promotions start earlier and earlier every year.  Hearing Christmas music and seeing holiday ornaments in the stores in October can up my anxiety level instantly as I start to think about all the things I have to do to get ready for the season.

I decided to it was time to take a deep breath (which is a great de-stresser by the way) and lighten the mental load by taking a few minutes to plan ahead for the upcoming weeks.

I hope you find the tips in this month's Style Bulletin helpful as well. If you have some other favorite de-stressing ideas, please let me know - I'll be more than happy to share them with with all of you.

(By the way, you may want to take advantage of one of my favorite jewelry sales that happens this month - Jackie Jones Semi-Annual Designer Jewelry Sale. It's a great way to take care of gifts for your jewelry-loving friends - and maybe one (or two!) for yourself as well.)

Happy stress-free November!

Before you celebrate "Peace on Earth" you first must ensure your own "Peace of Mind". These pre-holiday activities will help you keep your sanity as things move into holiday warp speed.

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR WARDROBE. Your holiday wardrobe, that is. Assemble potential outfits for your holidays, from the office party to dinner parties to New Year's Eve. And don't just look at them - try them on, complete with accessories, to make sure they fit and to see what might be missing. You'll have time to shop for the necessary items without rushing. (Let me know if you need some help putting your holiday-wear together - it's such a fun wardrobe project!)

DON'T BE 'HAIR-IED'. Schedule your hair appointments early, especially if you need a special 'do' for an event. December is a super busy time for stylists - if you book your appointment early, you be less stressed.

ORDER PERSONALIZED GIFTS NOW.  We're all used to virtually immediate gratification, given the ease and speed of on-line shopping. But some things can't be rushed - and personalized gifts are one of those items. Most places require 4-6 weeks to ensure delivery by the December holidays, so put your order in now and check off a few more items from your 'to-buy' list.

DON'T BE PARTY POOPED. If you're throwing a holiday party, make your lists of tasks ahead of time and ask for help from your BFF's or spouse, for things such as party favors or decorations or music. If you need to hire out some functions or rent items, schedule those now so you won't be scrambling at the last minute. Be sure to mark off a day (or two) after the party for recovery - returning rented items, putting the house back in order, or maybe just sitting on the couch with a cup of tea.

RENEW FRIENDSHIPS.
This may seem like a crazy thing to do at this busy time of year, but if you plan ahead, it's doable. Have lunch with a friend, attend a holiday play or event with the kids, or even Skype with loved ones you haven't seen in a while. You may even start a new holiday tradition!

So very true...the leaves turn when they are supposed to, flowers bloom in due season (well, unless they're living in my house, with my 'black thumb'), grapes ripen on the vine...and yet we humans, as part of nature, always seem to be in such a hurry.  I hope the tips in this issue will help you to slow down...enjoy...appreciate...and embrace the upcoming holiday season with joy and peace.

One of the joys our family has experienced in the past few months is the addition of our newest family member, Hunter. He's a little more than one month old and is already changing in so many ways...reminding us to enjoy every little moment, because we won't get them back again.  Welcome to our world, Hunter!

All my best to all of you!
