From the desk of Jocelyn Lamont. Happy Summer everyone. Here's hoping you are enjoying it as best as possible, before we know it, yikes, it'll be over. Back to happy summer thoughts... July went by quite quickly over here at the office, as I started the month off on holidays. But much was in store when I returned with the Algonquin college PR students having selected Candlelighters to benefit from their event planning and fundraising efforts. I had the great pleasure of meeting the students and their teachers, Linda Watson and Stephen Heckbert as they kicked of the "Be a Night Light" campaign on July 16th. What followed was an fun -filled, whirlwind two weeks that included 7 events. My sincere thanks and appreciation to the entire class, who showed great enthusiasm in planning and executing events, and a real willingness to make a difference in the lives of our Candlelighters' families. Congratulations to the students on their success!

Can't wait to get out on the links at some golf tournaments this coming month. First off, on August 13 is the Refuse2Lose tourney at the Canadian. Dev, Ilana and their gang have been hard at work organizing their first golf tournament, and by all accounts, things are coming together quite nicely. Please visit Refuse2Lose for all the details. You can also see what else these girls and their team have been up to as they continue to work on raising funds in support of Suite Seats.
2013 marks the 10th Anniversary of the Tori Carswell Memorial Tournament, one that I look forward to playing in every year, together with Barry and our favourite twosome Patti and Glenn. Tori's Helping Hand is the place to visit for details of the event which comes up on SATURDAY, AUGUST 24TH, also at the Canadian.
And thanks to Candlelighters' good friend Pierre Gravel who has invited me to play in tourney coming up on August 28th, also at the Canadian, where funds raised will also benefit Candlelighters. So like I say, a good month for golf ..... FORE!!!

Speaking of golf..... Alterna Savings are hosting their annual golf tournament in support of Candlelighters and our CyberKids program in September. We are so very fortunate to have this ongoing support from Alterna, with this making the third year in a row we will benefit from their outstanding event.

Also part of September is our 4th annual "Where there's Light, there's Hope" fundraising dinner at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Course. This event has been a great success over the years, and thanks to Dale Gagnon who is hard at work organizing this year's event, I am certain we will be building on that success again.
Please visit www.candlelighters.net frequently to keep up on all the news that is the news here at Candlelighters. The 4North refresh is well under way, and I, for one, can hardly wait to see how things will look when it's all done. I know the CHEO Foundation folks, as well as CHEO itself, are truly committed to making things as good as they can be for patients and families and Candlelighters is thrilled to work along side with them. I can't wait for the big "reveal" coming up, hopefully later in August. But a big thanks to Kevin and his gang at the CHEO Foundation and to Mr. Munter and the CHEO Execs for really listening to families and understanding the need for some important changes. THANK YOU!! And as for changes... Candlelighters has a couple little changes to let you know of... Based on your feedback, our Smiling Siblings will take on a new format this fall. Our first sibling outing is set for Saturday September 14th at the Museum of Nature. Parents are invited to join the siblings for some quality time together with other sibs and parents, so please rsvp to information@candlelighters.net and come out for some fun. Also, I am currently making plans for GATHER, which will also resume in the fall. Not sure if it will be September or October just yet, but once again, we will be bringing parents together once a month to ... gather, chat, share, .... Hope you can make it. And lastly, Candlelighters will not be offering a bereavement group this fall, but will be responding on a more individual basis to parents/couples in need of counseling. There is a great bereavement program offered at Rogers House and I urge you to check that out. We love to hear from our member families, so send any comments, questions and feedback our way information@candlelighters.net and follow us on twitter, like us on facebook.
