Helloooooo summer! Yikes, where did you go? Here today, gone tomorrow. Let's hope some fabulous summer weather gets here to stay. It's June already!
So a few things been going on, it is the busy season!! First, our congratulations to the Ottawa Senators! Wow that was an awesome season and great run in the play-offs. Who would have believed 2nd round for us? And while I won't be winning the hockey pool, sadly, it was great watching hockey until the almost end of May, because, as many of you know, I am #1KTF :)
 | | Jocelyn & the Ciarlo Family with Jacquelyn & Tom at the Alcatel-Lucent Inside Ride |
A great big thank you to Alcatel-Lucent and the Inside Ride team! On Thursday May 23, 45 teams participated in an Inside Ride. Over $63,000 was raised in support of Candlelighters!! Beautiful words were spoken by Trisha Ciarlo on the impact Candlelighters has had in her family's life since Isaac was diagnosed. Tamsin and I had a great day - Matthew and Jacob, together with Isaac were terrific volunteer helpers. Those three participated in the medal ceremony which was awesome!
Great Candlelighters' Cheer Station at the Ottawa Race Weekend early Sunday morning on May 26th. Thanks to all those volunteers who made the cold weather seem not so bad. And congrats to Dr. Donna Johnston who we saw doing the Half. Way to go!
I also heard R2L had an awesome time at the Great Glebe Garage Sale that Saturday! They raised $4738 for Candlelighters' Suite Seats program. I'm looking forward to seeing a bunch of you at Casino Royale coming up on June 14th - that's pretty soon, so I hope you got your tickets! And for more info on R2L fundraising activities, check out Refuse2Lose.ca Next up for them is a golf tournament in August.
Hope you had a chance to check out the 5th annual Comba garage and bake sale on Saturday June 1st and if you can, stop by Cupcakes and Clutter on June 22nd!
 | | Chris & Erin Phillips with Presenting Sponsor Teramach Technologies |
Speaking of golf, we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of Chipping In For Charity on June 4th. That event has raised over half a million dollars since its inception and the festivities were rocking. Our thanks to TeraMach Technologies for their ten unwavering years of support as our presenting sponsor. MolsonCoors have also been with the event for all ten years, and it sure is great to see Geoff bring our friend Cam Atchison out. We were very thrilled to have Erin and Chris Phillips join us for the day, and send thanks for their wonderful words at dinner. Lots of familiar faces who have participated each year and it is always a highlight in Candlelighters calendar. Thanks also to 2 amazing volunteers, Patti and Glenn, who have taken days off work to be with us every year as well. So a big shout out to everyone who joined us and a huge thank you! Special thanks to the Ciarlo family who also joined us. We were very happy to have Jon spend the day with us on the course, and also to welcome Trisha, Isaac, Matthew and Jacob for dinner. Trisha spoke beautifully, thank you Trisha, and if I can say, if anyone is looking for a caddy in the coming years, Jacob might be your man. Thanks for the spin around on the cart Jacob and Matthew, good cart driving on you too! The day was a great success - we achieved our goal and raised $50,000 this year!!!!! Check out the day at chippinginforcharity.com
There really is nothing better than a day on the links... looking forward to golfing in the 10th annual Tori Carswell Memorial Tournament coming up on August 24th. They too are celebrating 10 years, a remarkable and amazing accomplishment. Torishelpinghand.com has helped over 200 families thanks to this event and our sincere and heartfelt thanks to Paul and Kim Carswell for all their hard work and effort. My only ever golf tournament win for anything was in 2007 when I was closest to the pin at this event - and I've been trying to reclaim that ever since!!! Maybe this year... Here's to all the fun had trying!
Also of note...The Algonquin College Public Relations students have chosen Candlelighters to be the recipient charity of ALL their fundraising activities for this semester. That means 8 events will take place between July 16 and July 30. Lots of fun including movie night, pool (on pooltables with cues) night, pubnights...a whole lot of fun if you have a chance and want to participate, updates will be on our website and a great big thanks to those students!
Lots of changes at CHEO over the summer months, as the 'refresh' work gets done on 4North. Families will be staying on 4East over the summer, and we will still be visiting the hospital so please let us know if you are in need of anything.
