"The Candlelighter" eNews from Candlelighters
Keeping you informed about our events & activities.

From the Desk of Jocelyn Lamont
Was it just last month I was asking Mother Nature for warmer weather??  Unbelievable but true, we had summer weather in the early goings of May.  I, for one, loved that warm weather and can't wait for its return.

I was also asking the hockey Gods to let the Sens make the play-offs... and now we are heading into the second round.  GO SENS GO!!!!!

Here we are mid May and the event season is upon us.  Exciting and busy times for sure... there is a lot going on, so I urge you to please check us out on-line at

www.candlelighters.net for all the news that is the news....

Spring time is definitely garage sale season and Candlelighters is fortunate to be a beneficiary of a couple of those... Refuse2Lose Team Bryce will be raising funds for "Suite Seats" in the Big Glebe Garage Sale, coming up May 25th.  The 5th Annual Comba Garage and Bake Sale takes place on June 1.  Lots of treasures to be found for sure.

FORE!!  Just testing that out, as I will be saying that my fair share of the time this upcoming golf season.  I'm always just happy to hit the ball, where it goes is anyone's guess.  Guessing or predicting where my shot lands - that  is like a game within the game lol.

We are getting pretty excited for the 10th Anniversary "Chipping In For Charity" golf tournament - June 4th 2013 at Greyhawk.  TeraMach Technologies has been our presenting sponsor for 10 years!!!  We are looking forward to welcoming back TeraMach and our many wonderful returning sponsors and guests, as well as a few new folks too.  Check out who's going to be there www.chippinginforcharity.com Thank you for helping us raise a half a million dollars to support families of children with cancer !!

What else is coming up??   The Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend www.runottawa.ca and TEAM CANDLELIGHTERS will happily have you run on our behalf.  Did you know that if you are running in an event over the weekend, you can fundraise for Candlelighters and help make a difference in the lives of kids with cancer?

We'd be thrilled to have you participate in this event, which support Candlelighters.  Invite your friends, family, colleagues, neighbours to participate with you!

A big thank you to all our families who participated in CN Cycle for CHEO this year at the War Museum.  As you all know, Candlelighters works collaboratively with CHEO and the CHEO Foundation to support families of children with cancer.  While Candlelighters addresses the day-to-day challenges and ever evolving needs of patients and families, the CHEO Foundation supports amazing research initiatives (cheori.org) and enhancements to quality of life at CHEO for In-patients and those visiting the MDU, initiatives such as the refresh that will take place over the summer on 4 North and the recent renovation of the MDU.   Candlelighters will receive $7500 in funding support from the CHEO Foundation that contributes to our ability to respond to patient and families needs in their journey with childhood cancer.  We are always and greatly appreciative of the families who participate in this wonderful event that makes such a difference for families of children with cancer.  Thank you all for your hard work and continued efforts to make a difference for families of children with cancer.

Not often you hear it was pretty great to be at CHEO, but on Tuesday April 30, the "refresh" plan for 4North was presented, and it sure was great to hear all that is planned and also learn about the amazing research work going on at the CHEO Research Institutes.  Did you know over the last four years, the CHEO Foundation invested $4.4 million in cancer research projects?

And just a quick update on the End of Treatment Bell - it's in the works!  Candlelighters has provided a bell to be installed in the MDU and the discussions around marking this milestone have been initiated.  I know it seems like a long time coming, but I'll keep you in the loop and let you know when things are ready to go.
