      January  2013

From the Desk of Jocelyn Lamont

Is it too late?  Can I still say 'Happy New Year"??  hope so and please...my best wishes to ya'all this year.

As always, time is tick tick ticking away, the days are zooming on by and .... HOCKEY IS BACK IN OTTAWA!!  Not sure about you, but I am so happy the Senators are playing hockey at Scotiabank Place again....and our families are delighted as well as Suite Seats kicked off the Sens Season with the Ottawa home opener on Jan 21.  Maybe you saw the tweet about Liam enjoying the game... what?  Not a follower on Twitter?  Well that's an easy fix .... @candlelighters1 will give you the latest updates.

It's my pleasure to welcome Jeff Black, Mary Simms, Chris Lawton and Michael Anderson to the Board of Directors.  We are thrilled to have you join us and look forward to working with you all in the coming months!

Very exciting these early days of 2013, with lots of things on the go already ... The Smiling Siblings watercolour workshops schedule is out so please, sign up if you haven't already and make sure to rsvp for February's painting day.  Beautiful artwork and a fun afternoon for all who attend.

We have initiated our bereavement group again, and are grateful to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation for kindly donating space at the lovely Maplesoft Centre for the bi-weekly groups.  If you are interested in attending, please contact Tamsin here at the office for details.

GATHER kicks off in a couple short weeks.  Please save the date TUESDAY FEBRUARY 5TH AT 7:00 PM on your calendar and come on out for a social get together with other Candlelighters  parents.  Again, the ORCF has donated space and Candlelighters is please to host this very informal "gathering" on the first Tuesday of each month.  So come on out, have a few laughs, chat , get to know some other parents... It will be my pleasure to meet some of you in person for the first time and hopefully see some ol' familiar faces!

It's really been my great pleasure to work with Laura and Cory from Algonquin College.  These two amazing students are doing some revisions to Candlelighters web site so I can't wait to share it with all of you when its' "good to go".  Stay tuned for the big re-launch...but in the meantime, check our site regularly for all the news that is the news....

You'll find updates on programs and events, which you can also find when you Like us on Facebook.  It would be amazing to see our numbers go through the roof, and double over the next couple months.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our recent survey.  Looking forward to moving forward with parents feedback and hope to see parents at the focus group.

Lots of resolutions for me this year, but the one I intend to keep is getting my part of this e-blast done on time!  And with no "gentle reminders"... thank you

Special Thanks...
