Honor our veterans

Veterans Day, which is November 11 each year, is a holiday to honor America's veterans for their patriotism and willingness to serve and sacrifice for our nation's common good.

 Christians follow the Prince of Peace, so war is a dilemma that often challenges people of faith. Some Christians are pacifists, while others believe in a "just war." Many believe that the goals of freedom, justice, equality and democracy are worth the cost required.

Whatever individual Christians decide about any given conflict, most Christians believe that men and women who strive to make this world free of tyrants are to be respected. As Winston Churchill said, "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."

Thank you to all the men and women who served or are now serving our country.

Saints, remember our new worship times:

God Makes No Distinction

Why is it we have to prove, time and time again, they we are of the Christian faith? It seems that someone is always questioning what we believe or how our conversion occurred. If Romans 10:9-10 is true "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved" then we are indeed saved. There are no other conditions--no exceptions but that we confess and believe. Yet we are stilled challenged to defend our salvation.

The radical movement incited by Jesus and carried out by his disciplines continue to challenge the Jewish establishment. As the early church was developing, many of the Jewish heritage were trying to enforce conformity with Judaism especially for the new converts who were likely to be Gentiles. God clearly outlined His desire for all to receive a salvation of grace with the conversion of Cornelius and his family; however, there was still opposition. The disciplines had to contend with those who attempted to straddle the line between grace and the law; attempting to make new believers conform to older ways. These boundaries were demolished by the power of the Holy Spirit. In this week's lesson we will,

  1. Review the story of how the Jerusalem council listened to Paul and Barnabas as they told of the signs and wonders God did among the Gentiles;
  2. Reflect on how difficult it can be to reconcile law and God's action; and
  3. Initiate a process of discernment of God's will when the law and God's actions appear to conflict.

Bible Background: ACTS 15:1-35

Devotional Reading: Revelation 21:1-5

It is important to remember God gives everyone an equal opportunity. How can we give others an equal opportunity to be a part of the body of Christ? Join us as we explore this very important question.

Sunday School will begin at the conclusion of the 7:15 AM service

The Adult Class will meet in the main sanctuary promptly at 8:30 AM

"And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith." ACTS 15-8-9
