 Bronco Beat Information

About the Beat
The Bronco Beat is sent out each Friday during the school year to highlight school events, student achievements and sports events as these items are submitted for inclusion.

Dear Bronco Parents,

As you know your student's safety is of the utmost importance to us and we take that job very seriously.  As the popularity of electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) gains momentum out in our community, I would like to take a few moments to let you know of a few resources that points out the potential dangers and risks involved with our students using these cigarettes at such a young age.  There seems to be a misnomer amongst our young people that these devices are safe and do not have the same harmful effects as regular cigarettes.

http://www.fda.gov/newsevents/publichealthfocus/ucm172906.htm

http://www.mayoclinic.org/electronic-cigarettes/expert-answers/FAQ-20057776

http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp1313940

In regards to school policy and how a student is handled when they have one of these electronic cigarettes in their possession, it is the same as if they had a regular cigarette in their possession.  The electronic cigarette will be confiscated and will only be released to the parent or guardian.  The student will also receive two days of in school suspension.  This applies to all of our students even the ones who are 18 years of age or older.

I believe it is a team effort between the school and the parents in keeping our students safe and healthy.  Please assist us in educating your students at home about the dangers of these devices and the long term effects it can have on their health.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact myself or your student's house principal for further information.

Thanks,

Dr. Peirson

Dress Code

As spring is upon us, so is the need to renew our awareness of the district dress code. Starting Monday, March 3, students who wear head coverings inside the building during school hours without a Cultural/Religious reason will have their head wear (baseball hats, kerchiefs, ski caps, skull caps etc.) confiscated.  The first offense will result in the head wear being returned at the end of the day with a warning.  Any additional offenses will result in the head wear only being given to parents/guardians with any normal discipline actions necessary. Please understand that this is not a change in dress code, but rather a change in how an offense will be handled.
