I hope you had a restful break and are ready to finish the year strong. We have many important dates coming up that you need to put on your calendar.
MEF Scholarship
We have had some students already submit their application. I hope you have started your application and invited your four recommenders. The deadline is February 14th at 3:00pm. You need to have time to address any issues you may have with the application so don't wait until the last minute to submit. The application and a list of instructions can be found at: www.mmeeff.com . Make sure you complete all the steps and hit SUBMIT when your application is complete.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
You need to complete the FAFSA in order to receive a Financial Aid Award Letter from each college you applied to. This is the application you have to complete to be offered any grants, loans, work-study, and need-based scholarships. Make sure you check your college's financial aid website for the Priority Deadline and file your FAFSA and any other required documents by this deadline. We encourage parents to file their taxes early and electronically to avoid any delays with the financial aid process. Some colleges may require other documents so check their website. The FAFSA website is: www.fafsa.gov
We will be having a Funding College 101 night where we will be going into great detail about the FAFSA and other financial aid forms. We will also have FAFSA Workshops where parents and students can bring their financial forms to the school and we will help them complete their FAFSA. These are the dates for all of these events:

Visual Art
Several AP Studio Art students had the opportunity to participate with Mr. Thomas in the Nasher Student Xchange initiative, a program designed for high school and college studio art and art history students in conjunction with the Nasher Sculpture Center's 10-year anniversary Nasher Xchange celebration. The Nasher Xchange is a celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the completion of the Nasher Sculpture Center in downtown Dallas and features the work of ten local, national, and international artists who have been invited to create installations throughout Dallas. McKinney Boyd students were invited to visit and respond to the CURTAINS installation, created by Denton-based art group Good/Bad Art Collective and located in Bryan Tower in downtown Dallas. On Saturday, January 25th, these students will have the opportunity to share their responses to the installation with other students and artists at the Nasher. Special thanks to Grace Hann, Lindsey Howard, Logan Larsen, Julia Monte, Suzy Perry, and Abi Springfield for their continued commitment to exploration of visual art.

Ladies Soccer
The Lady Broncos Soccer Team continued their winning ways beating Mesquite Poteet by a score of 4-0. Taylor Cobb got the scoring started about 15 minutes into the game off a pass from Sydnie Dolzine. The second goal came right before halftime off a scramble in the box that hit Maggie Scales who then found Atkyn Garza for the tap in. In the second half the Broncos continued their dominance when Sydnie Dolzine flicked a ball to Libby Murphy about 25 yards out. Libby rocketed a shot past the keeper who had no answer for the beautiful shot. Libby then retuned the favor a few minutes later threading a ball into Sydnie Dolzine for the 4th and final goal of the night. The Lady Broncos improve their record to 5-1 on the season and have only allowed one goal.
