After a fantastic month which featured the premieres of Douglas Martin's Rite of Spring and Patrick Corbin's Caress, ARB is thrilled to present the full choreographic premiere of Douglas Martin's Romeo and Juliet this month! But first, if you missed the performance at RVCC, scroll down to read the reviews, and better yet, join us tonight, April 5 at 8:00pm for Viva Spring at South Orange Performing Arts Center featuring Douglas Martin's Rite of Spring, Patrick Corbin's Caress, and Gerald Arpino's Viva Vivaldi. Tickets: sopacnow.org, 973.275.1114.
Throughout 2012, ARB performed excerpts from Martin's Romeo and Juliet as part of mixed-bill programs across New Jersey. In September 2012, the company unveiled the bedroom pas de deux at Hamilton Stage. Bea Smith of Union News Daily characterized it as "outstanding" and a "stunning, intimate performance." ARB will deliver this experience and more, with its performance of the full ballet at Hamilton Stage. This is a special opportunity to see the story come to life close-up April 12 at 7:00pm, April 13 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. Romeo and Juliet at Hamilton Stage for the Performing Arts at UCPAC. Tickets: hamiltonstage.com, 732.499.8226. To bring your students to the school show on April 12 at 10:00am, contact Lisa Beth Vettoso.
Also in April... ARB's annual Gala: White Nights - our signature fundraising event and most anticipated performance and celebration of the year!
This year's Gala, White Nights, will be held in New Brunswick on April 20th and will begin with a 6:00pm performance at the Crossroads Theatre featuring performances by ARB, Princeton Ballet School, and DANCE POWER Scholars, including excerpts from Rite of Spring and Swan Lake. After the show, we'll move across the street to The Heldrich Hotel for a 7:00pm dinner and reception, and the Junior Gala. This year's Gala honorees are New Brunswick Mayor Jim Cahill & Dr. Anthony R. and Marlene M. Volpe for their extraordinary support of ARB's DANCE POWER program as well as Maria Youskevitch, recipient of the Audrée Estey Award for Excellence in Dance Education. CLICK HERE for tickets. And finally, rounding out the month, ARB will perform Gerald Arpino's Viva Vivaldi in New Jersey Performing Arts Center's Jersey Moves! Festival of Dance on April 27, 2013. CLICK HERE for more information and for tickets to the diverse program which will also feature works by Timothy Kochka with The Davis Academy, Bani Ray, Nimbus Dance Works under the Artistic Direction of former ARB dancer, Samuel Potts, New Jersey Tap Ensemble, and Dance Tactics.
Meanwhile, much is also percolating at Princeton Ballet School and in our DANCE POWER program. Princeton Ballet School students and faculty members are busy preparing for the wonderful production of Swan Lake, while DANCE POWER students and teaching artists have been equally busy putting the final touches on this year's residencies. The 3rd grade DANCE POWER Waiting in the Wings performance was a great success last month, and next Monday, April 8, will be our first annual 2nd grade residency performance entitled, Moving Stories, during which students will perform dances they've helped to create based on the book, "The Relatives Came."
Please read on for much, much more...
