Happy New Year!
|
Thank you for your support and enthusiasm throughout 2012! We'd like to extend a special thank you to everyone who gave to our year-end appeal. With your support, we were able to raise $50,000, which will help us continue to create, educate and inspire. In this newsletter, we look back at 2012's highlights and forward to 2013.
But before all that, we're thrilled to be nominated for "Favorite Dance Company" in the Jersey Arts Annual People's Choice Awards. It means so much to be recognized with this honor. If we've inspired you this past year, please let everyone know by voting for ARB in this tight race. We are in great company with the other nominees, not only in our category, but also among all the great arts organizations in New Jersey (including some of our wonderful collaborators), so good luck to everyone, and happy voting! Please continue for much more...

What an exciting year! In 2012, ARB:
- Commissioned 5 new works by Trinette Singleton, Ann Marie DeAngelo, and Resident Choreographer Mary Barton;
- Previewed new excerpts from Douglas Martin's Romeo and Juliet;
- Revived 2 major works by master choreographer, Gerald Arpino;
- Performed in new venues with live music;
- Presented Princeton Ballet School students in Don Quixote;
- Expanded our Trainee, DANCE POWER and Access & Enrichment programming;
- Received recognition by our audiences and critics;
- Broke box office records at this year's Nutcracker season, and...
- Had a blast doing it all!

For the past 27 years, DANCE POWER has reached every 3rd grade class in the New Brunswick School District. Last year, ARB brought DANCE POWER to one 2nd grade class as a pilot program. We are happy to expand this year! Our new 2nd Grade residency will take place in two 2nd grade classrooms in each of New Brunswick's 8 public schools. The curriculum focuses on creating a dance inspired by text in order to improve students' language arts skills and increase their knowledge of the art form of dance. This year, students will use the story "The Relatives Came" as the foundation for their work.
