Dear ,
On May 6, we celebrated National Teachers' Day. It was a great opportunity to celebrate all that teachers do. They encourage us, inspire us, and motivate us to be the best we can be. Common Hope is privileged to work with many outstanding teachers in Guatemala, and we're grateful for the support of teachers in the U.S. Read on for the latest news.

Philanthropy course awards Common Hope $20,000
Students at the University of Texas had a rare opportunity to become major philanthropists by participating in a course called, Philanthropy: The Power of Giving. A highly competitive class to be accepted into, the course was designed to teach students how to evaluate charities based on the organization's effectiveness.
Students were given $100,000 from an anonymous donor and assigned the task of researching and selecting charities to receive donations. Common Hope was honored to be one of five recipients. To read more about the course, the students' evaluation process, and what they discovered about Common Hope, click below.

YOU CAN
HELP
First grader and aspiring doctor needs a sponsor
First grader Vani just celebrated her 7th birthday on April 12. She loves to sing, especially in school activities. She also likes to jump rope and play with her best friend Ambar at recess. When she grows up, Vani dreams of becoming a doctor.
Vani has four siblings. Right now, her family lives on communal ground, but her mom and dad are trying hard to get their own land and improve their living conditions. They encourage their kids to study hard so they can create a brighter future for themselves and their family.
Your support will keep Vani on the path to graduation and make a huge impact in her family's life. To become Vani's sponsor, send an email to Jessie Szopinski, call 651.917.0917, or sponsor her online.
