Rabi Al-A'wwal1435

Salaam Alaikum, Peace be with you

Cell phones are wonderful gadgets.

They allow us to work on-the-go,  record and relive priceless moments, navigate to new paths and, most importantly, stay connected.  Staying connected is an unspoken rule at UMF that governs the very essence of our grassroots organization.   It is this connectivity that keeps us committed to Unity, Education and Community Service each day.   It is this connectivity that grew our organization. And, it is this connectivity that propels us forward into the future, with a deeper commitment to our goals.

It is this connectivity that inspired us to launch our Mobile App!  Currently available for Apple Users in beta version, our App provides ease in access to all things UMF!  Download for Free today!

Mission Possible: "Put on a Happy Face"

UMF Breakfast Club isn't just about making breakfast for the needy.  It is about spending some time with them, learning about their lives and making them smile!  UMF Volunteers have built lasting relationships with the residents based on commonalities that unite us.

Kaya is just one example.

When we met Kaya last month, she was very thankful for a hot breakfast and henna tattoo we provided.   She had told us that 'things were looking up and she had a few interviews lined up!"   Today,  she was very excited to tell us that she "landed the job, and is slowly getting back on her feet!"   Her story is one of many.   Moved from the cold North for an 'easier life,' she struggled to make ends meet and maintain her faith.  As a conservative Jewish woman,  she spoke of the similarities between Jewish and Muslim women's dressing and smiled at the fact that 'we're all the same somehow!'   She smiled as our volunteers shuffled out and exclaimed, 'thank you for breakfast.  You all do so much for us and always smile!"

UMF Scholarship

One of the things we love to do at UMF is help motivate students to get involved in community service. Those community service hours can be used towards applying for our annual $4,000 scholarship award. As with most scholarships, there are many students qualified to receive the award but few that apply. You just need to be a high school student or college student willing to spend several minutes completing our application online of May 31st. Don't miss this opportunity to be our award winner for 2014!

UMF Guides

UMF Guides 2014 is off to a great start with almost 30 registered Guides and passionate Lieutenants eager to make this another exciting year! Our first session started with an exciting video which through a song taught the children each letter of the Arabic Alphabet and related each one to an animal. The session continued with talking about what the Quran says about animals and humans while keeping the Guides captivated with entertaining stories. During snack time the Guides visited the book club where each session they can check out a book which they write reflections about afterwards. Through these reflections Guides collect tickets which they can use to purchase items from the Special Store. The session concluded with a hands on activity where the Guides express their creativity inspired though what they learned that day. This is just the beginning! We have started the Quran Tarteel classes at each session and all sorts of activities planed along the way. This is sure to be a great year and as always we appreciate your participation and support!
