THE MAN CAVE OFFSHOOT THAT COULD JUST SAVE YOUR MARRIAGE

Written by Jaymi Naciri

The typical scenario goes something like this: the room that used to be the garage or the extra bedroom or maybe even the entire basement gets co-opted by the man of the house, adorned with all sorts of branded banners and other team-logoed stuff and is christened the Man Cave or the Dude Dungeon or some other similarly monikered male-dominated space with the idea being that the rest of the house is the woman's domain and therefore the man needs his special man space.

Seems fair, really. Most women we know don't mind a bit that all the stuff we don't want strewn throughout the rest of the house is relegated to one place.

Except for this: There isn't really a woman space equivalent - not in the kitchen or the living room or the breakfast nook or even the bathroom (even though it does have a soaking tub and a sit-down vanity and an immense walk-in closet with custom shoe storage.)

If you're one who believes that women need that one special place of their own, the "She Shed," so named by folks at Lighter Side of Real Estate, might be your answer. Check out a bevy of their She Sheds here, and then see a few more examples below.

Bible Verse of the Week
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Pruning Your Success

I love grapes. I recently had the opportunity to sample some grapes still growing on the vine. They were sweet and delicious. I wondered what made a grape vine successful and productive. Now I understand that it is the same process that makes our lives successful, happy, and productive.

The success of the grape vine and the production of juicy grapes are dependent upon the proper pruning of the vines. Only the green shoots from the plant bears the grapes. The vines must be trained and pruned to maintain or improve their productivity.

The fruit bearing part of the vine gets further away the roots each year. As the vine gets longer, energy and plant food are unnecessarily wasted as the sap is pumped a greater distance from the roots to the leaves. Pruning reduces the distance between the root and the branch and forces the vine to focus upon fruit production.

The lesson here for us is that it is necessary for us to also prune away those situations in our lives that are not productive. Our energy and resources may be better used in those pursuits that fulfill our lives and make us happier and more successful.

We must be willing to take a look at our lives and ask whether certain activities, tasks, relationships, attitudes, or habits are producing for us. If they are not, we need to take our mental pruning shears to them.

Perhaps a seasonal pruning in our lives is in order. What habits would you like to purge from your life? What situation is no longer working for you? What is sapping your energy, but is not producing positive results? How far away have you gotten from the nurturing source?

Some activities may need to be completely cut out of your life, while others merely require a little pruning to control the growth. What would you look and feel like if your life was appropriate trimmed?

"The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur."

Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday. -John Wayne

Personal Note

Friday night our Kiwanis Club held its first annual "Daddy and Daughter "dance at the Lennox village  Ball Room.  I assisted with that and It was a great success.

Early Saturday morning I had a Deacons meeting.  It was over in time to join my running team for the end of the Marathon season last practice run celebration (by David Landry).  He puts on a nice spread.  Then I ran by the office to work on a loan before going home to clean out part of my attic.  In the afternoon I watched Collin play a T-ball game before doing five miles on our neighborhood greenway.  It was hot.  I should have done it earlier.  I managed to fit yard work in.  (it needs cutting again already.)  That night I had dinner with Matt and his fiancé Amber.  Sunday I went to Church and then did a bunch of chores at home.
