According to Pantone's hyperbole, the color of the year selection requires careful consideration and, to arrive at the selection, Pantone quite literally searches the world looking for color influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films that are in production, traveling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel. There is more press release fluff, but I'll spare you.
Frankly, I am uncertain how Pantone comes up with their predictions for the color of the year. I wonder if they borrow "The Wheel of Fortune", give it a spin, and choose wherever it lands. Last season's color was Emerald. This season it landed on the opposite side of the color wheel on Radiant Orchid. And to my amazement, I find that I'm rather fond of this cocktail of fuchsia, purple, and pink undertones. According to Pantone's crystal ball, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. I can buy that.

I can visualize it sprucing up interior spaces with paint, accent pieces and accessories. Radiant Orchid plays well with lots of other colors. It complements olive and deeper hunter greens, and offers a gorgeous combination when paired with turquoise, teal and even light yellows. Similarly, the vibrant color is sure to liven up neutrals including gray, beige and taupe. It really pairs well with sisal. Uplifting and bold without being overpowering, Radiant Orchid reenergizes almost any color palette. and provides a unifying element for diverse spaces.
